    Re: 2016 Presidential Campaign

Again, from memory, so I might have these numbers a little off. But, basically, the best prediction models are projecting Trump to garner only 192 EC votes. Romney got about 220 in 2012. McCain got about 186. So, Trump might end up doing a little better than Mac, but not as well as Romney.

Yes, these are predictions. Subject to change and to the whims of voters, who could change their minds between now and November. But, as of right now, late August, pre-debates, this is the reality.

Reagan trailed Carter going into the conventions, which were in mid-August in 1980. Coming out of the conventions, Reagan pulled even, depending on which poll you looked at. It was close, either way. Just before the first debate, Carter pulled a point or two ahead. It was close, but the consensus was very clear that Carter was leading. Then....that first debate. Ronaldo Maximus, the great communicator, smoked Carter! Race over, baby! Reagan surged into the lead and went on to a historic landslide victory. Final score: Reagan 489 Carter 49

Can Trump turn the tables in the debates? It's his only hope.

    Re: 2016 Presidential Campaign

Remember, Romney beat obummer in their first debate. Trounced him, really. And the polls reflected that. But, of course, Romney went all chicken-chit in the subsequent debates and whatever advantage he had gained, he gave back and then some.

Trump won't be nice to Killary. BUT!! he needs to focus on numbers, facts, reality, and policies. PLEASE stay away from name-calling. For instance, something like:

on employment: "Ms. Clinton wants to continue President Obama's economic policies, which have caused the unemployment rate among male African-Americans, ages 18-34, to reach 25%. How much higher do you plan to take this rate, 30%? 35%?"

In this way, Trump gets in a zinger and puts Killary on the defensive. Trump has to attack, without holding back, like Romney did, but he has to stay focused on what is important to people. He can't say it like this: "Crooked Hillary wants to just keep young black men in the streets, by denying them jobs, where they get into trouble with the police..."

Nope! all many voters will hear is Trump saying is "ALL young black men are thugs who fight the police." The fact of failed economic policies causing hardships will get lost in that message.

I think just the opposite dawg80. Insulting is what's got him this far. If he tries to go intelligent and thoughtful, she will tear him up in a debate just because she has a better grip on what she stands for than he does. Her character is her weakness. And I also think most of the electorate is pretty dumb (since we ended up with Hillary vs Trump and Obama was elected twice) and can't follow issues, but they can appreciate the insults (especially if they are true and hit home). I think having someone who would insult the left's nominee is a big factor of why Trump was chosen (the 2 Romney debates you referenced were hard to stomach, as he pretty much just played nice and kind of agreed with Obama).

You may be right, but the math doesn't work for him. There aren't enough people that hate Hillary enough to vote for Trump. His ONLY hope is a pivot. We're talking about a guy who MIGHT get 80% of registered republican voters. It's looking more and more like a blood bath.

Here's hoping the rights flirtations with center-left big government populism ends in November.

Did you read that article where Bannon calls himself a Leninist?

“Lenin wanted to destroy the state, and that’s my goal too. I want to bring everything crashing down, and destroy all of today’s establishment.”

I have no idea what the future right wing party will look like. Glenn Beck has a theory that Trump is going to start a new TV network that has guys like this in control who will divide the right wing into conservatism vs populism/anti-establishment.

I didn't see that. I've still yet to see anything that dissuades me from believing that Trump is a HRC plant. I can't think of a single thing that he would do differently. Not only does HRC win the election, but dems clean up down ballot. It was the perfect outcome for HRC and the DNC.

I think he was a plant. She was scared of Rubio and Trump was to be her Ross Perot to take votes from Rubio (hence, the early debate pledge that no one would run 3rd party). It's even better that he got the nomination and she doesn't have to mess with Rubio.

    Re: 2016 Presidential Campaign

The pundits say it's sitting like this:

    pro-Killary - 41%
    leaning-Killary 8%

    pro-Trump - 38%
    leaning-Trump- 7%

    Pure, true Independents - 6%

The Indies, as it stands now, won't decide this election, not by themselves. It's not like when this sector was 15+% in some elections. Instead, it's a combination of the Indies plus the "leaners," from both sides. I think that a good number of the "leaners" will actually choose a 3rd party, Johnson or Stein. Johnson is polling 5+%, Stein only about 1%. If we assume from whom these 3rd parties will take voters, Trump gets hurt worse.

So, Trump needs to identify and target these "leaners" and the Indies. I guarantee, these groups will NOT take to a bombastic Trump in the debates. If they liked that about him, they would already be in the pro-Trump group.

It's close guys and Trump hasn't even destroyed her in the TV debates yet. He will absolutely have her on her heals and falling over for reasons other than her poor health
on national TV. That is unless she doesn't show claiming she's ill.
