"Ex" does have a bad connotation.

The best way to phrase it is "former La. Tech wide receiver."

Aggie alumni (or not) belong to Former Students' Association. At least our name indicates that members have graduated from Tech while "exes" and "former students" just mean members attended.

Actually an "alumnus" is a former student, doesn't have to be a graduate. I've recruited a few to the alumni association with that tidbit.
