Total points we're tied at # 108 with ULM and total yards we are 109 according to ESPN. And don't leave out the other offensive juggernauts we've played like UTEP and UMASS. With decent kick coverage those numbers improve which is why I said it's not the worst defense I've seen here. I don't know how much more you can ask of your offense when they're already near the top in nearly every category. They will score 40+ every game, which should be all you can ask of any offense. I'm sure after playing the likes of F_U, NT and UTSA he'll manage to land softly in the low 90's range defensively and ole Baker will get to keep his job one more year.
What defensive ranking were you using? Just curious if my numbers are right.

I don't expect our offense to do more, but I do expect them to continue the current production. If they do, I have no doubt our defense will perform well enough to hold teams under 30 (4TDs).

You mentioned "offensive juggernauts" UTEP and UMass...

In the UTEP game our D held them to 7. Our offense STUNK in that game.

In the UMASS game (28pts) our D gave up long drives in the 1st and 4th quarters. The second quarter TD for UMass began on the 40 due to poor kick coverage. The 3rd quarter TD for UMass came after the Higgins fumble inside our 20.

Our D held Arkansas to 21.

Our defense was not great last year. We knew this year we were losing most of our pass rush and lost our best big man in Wallace going in. It's not a great defense, but it's not as bad as some of the drunk posts indicate.

I don't think top 100 is anybody's bar. Certainly not our Coaches. I think it was just a number SicemDawgzthrew out there. I had to let him know we were indeed a top 100 defense.

Agree I was really replying to him and thanks for looking that up. It will hopefully come down from 95 playing some of the teams left on the schedule but the defense so far has once again been a big problem.

In reality, kicking the ball in the end zone and making teams go the length of the field should be good enough to prevent 1 score per game. IMO, that is enough to go undefeated the rest of the way.

Year in and year out that would be something to strive for. Having said that, this defense wouldn't be a top 50 if they were issued sidearms. If we played just average to bad defense and not horrible, we have enough offensive fire power to beat the rest of the teams on the schedule. As 05 and a plethora of others have mentioned, having a D1 level coverage team would be most helpful. And 100 is a very low bar, hence the limbo reference.

Our offense only scored 30 tonight. Our defense gave up 24. That was expected.
