Lack of conditioning? I venture to say that is not even close to being accurate.

No point in debating it really. A few, like me, believe that was part of the defensive problem early on, but few dare to speak out in fear of upsetting the masses of his fans.

His program is sold as one that has player in great shape mid-season to season end while some of his peer's programs begin to lose strength and conditioning the last 1/3 to season end. That appears to be the case with his program. It has worked well since the Middle game.

I'm glad and very happy that they did. Looked like two very different teams between the two halves.

Why couldn't they play a complete game? They made UNT Fr Qb looked like Tom Brady in the first half 11 for 11 to start out the game.

After making halftime adjustments that literally every single person on this board knew should have been the defensive game plan from the very beginning.

Before the game, the book is "short freshman QB that can make short accurate passes while under no pressure."

Solution: Put the kid on his butt. Get a hand in his face on all plays. Vary your blitz, don't do a simple symmetrical blitz. Overload one side with multiple blitzers so that there are not enough blockers on that side to pick up all of the rushers. Under any kind of pressure, the kid WILL NOT be able to throw down field (more than 10 yards). If he is lucky enough to get off a short pass under pressure, then ok, short gain. Keep doing it and he will fold.

Good analysis. During the first half, I turned to Dwayne and PawDawg and said that Xavier Woods had no business lining up 16 yards off the line of scrimmage --and back pedaling at the snap. My exact words were, "This UNT kid (QB Mason Fine) ain't Tom Brady. What's with all the cushion? This kid can't throw the ball down field."

Now, if we know and can see this stuff from row 21, Blake Baker should have known it before the game.

Consequently, UNT ate us up with those quick passes to RB's out of the backfield and particularly those short passes down the sideline to their "man in motion". Early on, UNT would send a player in motion, and Tech wouldn't send anybody with him, and didn't have anybody covering him. After motioning outside, UNT literally has us outnumbered on the edge. Blake Baker eventually caught on, but it bothers me that he was so slow to respond.

Exactly. Comparing the first half with the second shows you that Tech does not have an athlete problem. Tech has a DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR problem.

Exactly! Are they afraid to make the obvious changes during the first half? Do they think they need to get into the halftime locker room to decide to put pressure on the QB? Are they so confident in our offense that just to stay a little ahead in the first half is OK by them before putting the hammer down? What gives?

I thought except for Henderson's stone hands which lead to the pic and short field the defense played pretty well -

Take that short field away and Barnes missed chip shot it's a 48-17 or worse score

They adjusted through the first half and Fine made some plays with his feet which he can do

I like the progression this group is making

I also thought our kick coverage team did a lot better as the game progressed also

Skip lacked the killer instinct to start the second half - when we got Sam's pik he should of went for the jugular instead of being content on trying to run it down their throats and settling for the FG try

Wasn't that the series where Carlos dropped the TD pass?

I would of spoke Saturday if I would of known that was you..

Higgins had a below average game by his standards in my book Saturday - didn't progress through his reads and locked in on a receiver way to quick way to often

I think he threw to the right End Zone on 2nd and 10 and the left end zone on 3rd and 10. I was expecting the criticism to be that he should have kept running Craft.

It's strange going to a game and not knowing who the BB&B folks are. I feel like I know y'all, but I really don't. I need to meet up with y'all some time. My crowd isn't tailgaters though.

I thought Higgins showed flashes of the Texas Tech QB (Mahones?). I am coming to the realization that this kid is special. Holtz has said teams are not running the same defense against us that they are showing on film. We prepare for what they've done all year and then they show us something completely different when the game starts. I can imagine this could be confusing for a QB. As long as he doesn't force throws based on his pre-snap reads, I'm cool with him. He's doing a really good job of protecting the ball, imo.

    Re: Fire Baker - NOW

It was obvious that part of the UNT defensive scheme was to hold and/or tackle #1 and #5 on every play. I've never seen anything so blatant in my life. When they finally started calling it, it didn't seem real because they were calling it so often. So glad Antee's crew was not calling. Some said the chick called a good game, but she ignored several calls before she finally started reaching for her flag.

I thought he did fine. We werent trying to be flashy. And on top of the multitude of holding penalties, there were lots of dropped passes by the recievers that definitely could have been caught.
