I have a friend who's son plays on the HS team here and he never got to play. And he was so upset. He KNEW he was as good as the guys in front of him. They finally put him in in Game 8 and the first series he was in he got a pick 6 and saved the game for them. You never know unless you put them in there and see. I agree... what harm could it have done in that game?!

He also refused to play another proven walk on in Blake Martin last year. He should be embarrassed at the way some of his chosen guys are attempting to tackle and cover receivers. Hogan and Mims had better fundamentals in Jr. High than these guys have.

They may get their chance. There are other LBs I'm surprised haven't played. Donald Freeman, Dae'Von Washington (they were high on him last year), and Collin Scott. I'm sure he has a reason, but I don't understand it. I don't get to see practice like he does either though. That's where you earn your time.

Wasn't Mims a starter until he got hurt? Did the injury affect him?

Folks on this board have been discussing this since the late 1990's. With Barksdale AFB across the river, a game between LA Tech and Air Force in Independence Stadium is long overdue.

It was a decent crowd that night, but I don't have any attendance numbers to verify that.
    Mike Singletary. Not Ken.

Back in 1976 Notre Dame traveled down to Alabama to play the Tide. Ara Parseghian, together with his DC, decided the only chance they had of slowing down the vaunted wishbone attack was assigning a defender to each offensive player. Bama was ranked #1 and of course, also had a stout defense. Parseghian knew he could not expect to out-score them and win the game. His own offense would struggle against Bama's defense. So, he installs this new defense. Discipline on EVERY play was key. Not once could they afford a defender not doing his job, as the system depended on all 11 defenders sticking to the script.

    It worked.

Final: Notre Dame 7 Alabama 0

And, that from a forced fumble giving the Irish a short field to get that one score. It was a defensive struggle of monumental proportions.

About 2 years later, Parseghian and the Irish met The Bear and Bama again, this time in the Orange Bowl. "We know they will employ that assignment defense again," Bear Bryant said, "and we are ready this time." Apparently not so ready..

Final: Notre Dame 13 Alabama 11

TWICE the Irish stuffed Bama's explosive wishbone offense with assignment defense.

Navy's offense is awesome. Their guys are so smart, so disciplined they can execute the complexity of the option to perfection. I have nothing but respect and admiration for them. The ONLY chance a defense has is to attack that offense, and make sure EVERY option is covered EVERY play. NOT ONCE can a defender not perform his part of the scheme.

And then....make a tackle. Oh, chit!

Absolutely. It's about getting off of blocks and tackling which are two things we are not good at. This match up will be a nightmare. Our defense doesn't excel at anything. At least in the past we have been strong against the run when suspect against the pass. Im hoping their new QB struggles with timing due to inexperience; otherwise we'll need to score on most every possession bcuz we will have 30% fewer opportunities if Navy gets their run game rolling. If we hold them to 250 or less on ground we should win by 2-3 scores. If Navy surpasses 300 yds on ground we are in trouble. If Navy is north of 350 on the ground we will likely lose simply due to lack of possession time and opportunities to score.

Defensive coordinator Blake Baker received the biggest raise with a bump of $68,000 to $208,000. Baker is the ninth-highest paid assistant in C-USA.

so Baker got a $68k raise after the performance of our D last year. if the trend follows, he would receive close too $100k raise after our D performance this year. it is unbelievable that this guy is making $200k.

If so, someone needs to be held accountable for this travesty.

Someone like his boss? The guy who many of our fans thinks we need to make the highest paid coach in C-USA?

No one on this staff deserves a raise. That includes Holtz. Baker and the S&C coach need to be fired, not demoted.
