    Re: Skip Holtz's Contract

I pay $20/month for my wife to have a car wash pass and don't even notice it on the CC bill. I would think that $5/month is not unreasonable. Great idea for the auto pay deal. Get people to sign up at that level either as a student, grad, or grad student. It is likely that the only way that auto pay ever falls off is if the account is closed one day. That could be 30-40 years for some. Think of just getting $60 per year from every graduate in perpetuity. If you got that out of a handful of students, plus grads, and grad students every year, that could be $150,000 or more in the first year. Every year after that, it grows by close to that # or more if people bump it up down the road. You could easily be at $1,000,000 additional giving in 4-5 years. Heck, develop a document that allows the university to develop an increasing scale over several years. Start at $1. Bump it to $3/mo after graduation, $5/mo after year 3, $10 after 5, and $15 at 10. Freeze it at $15 per month and allow the grad to increase at their own pace after that. Add in some perks for continuous giving. Not the $$$ given, but # of years on the donor list. Include the little people with the big people. Maybe the big donor hires the little donor because they meet at an event held for both. The little donor may become a big donor.

This model will not work with our current AD. Although our LTAC motto has been, "Any Gift, Any Size, Every Year," it is apparent that the AD does not care about someone giving $500 yearly. From my and others' observation, he caters (read as only mingles with) to the very large donors. I know that I can count on one finger the times that he has spoke to me personally, and that was probably because I was talking to Dr. Guice at an away basketball game with few visiting fans. One thing he fails to realize is that many of us either know, work for, or deal with those large donors regularly. Every donor matters. Just by observation, I can guarantee you that there are more potential $1,000/year donors available than even $2,500/year donors. And I would bet that several of those $1,000/year donors could easily move to the $2,500/year bracket if they were approached in a non-condescending manner.

That's the picture I get when I look at it, but maybe that is the beauty of the small giving program, it does not take a senior Athletic employee to handle it. The part I really think will get it started though is making it simple an cheap, start them out cheap, $3, $2 or even a $1. Handle it like like all the cable and satellite companies do, get them in for a dollar and have it increase 100% every year for 5 years that puts a five year giver at around a $176.00 a year donor. You could hope to add and retain around a 1000 new donors a year, over a ten year period that turns into real money and gives the fan some kind of ownership, an oh yea, make it for football only. This small amount of giving will help fans become more engaged with the program, that leads to other things and possibly bigger donations and someone giving just a few bucks a month does not bother to cancel there auto-pay when we have a bad season or do something stupid.

Your right about our AD, he does not have a clue about how to involve our everyday possible contributor, the alumni who are teachers, public safety, Federal workers, etc. he makes it look like an impossible task for them to be a donor and be recognized for it. Just get these small donors giving and let them get a glimpse of the next level of giving and tease them into taking a very small step up to that next level and it will become their goal to climb the ladder and be one of the bigger contributors to our program someday.

I can corroborate this. Mrs. Champ & I redirected our giving to academics largely bc TMac is a snob and a half. I'll be able to start giving to athletics again when either a) he moves on; or b) he starts being nice to non-Squire Creek members.

I completely agree. I have made it a point to connect with others in the Athletic Department. They respond to my questions and concerns. They visit with me at games without concern for who else they should be talking to. Also, simple questions like who to call about sports camps on campus are not beneath them. I trust them to take care of us whenever possible.

I have given to LTAC at pretty good levels (for me at least) for a number of years (minus the year my wife had cancer). I have never spoken to TMac beyond maybe saying hello to him.

I can honestly say that besides the annual letter and an occasional (once every few years) call from a student worker, I have never been asked to donate or increase my donations to athletics. If they came and asked me to contribute more for something it would probably be difficult for me to say no.

So, for all this talk about "incentives" and bonuses for coaches, what about AD's? 100K base salary, bowl game 25K, Conference Championship in BaseB, MBB, WBB, & FB 25K each with 25K also for NCAA tourneys in each sport, NIT invites 10K each, NCAA tourney wins 5K each, Conference championships in other sports 10K each, NCAA tourneys in other sports 10K each, etc. Or something like that.

    Maybe later.

Suffice it to say, for now, I had a poor customer service experience.

thank you for addressing reality -- last time we scrubbed up a little money he chose to give to assistants... USA sports section posted Tech as one of most efficient programs in America for cost of win .... we have folks who don't understand our minimal budget and folks who think 1 million is a big deal-- damn, ULL and several CUSA teams paying 1 mil-- we have been able to keep Skip because of the 500k buy out. The "incentives " being posted do not get him to mil. I for one hope we can get a number that will make him happy .. he will probably give portion to his assistants.

good man -- they called me yesterday about Baseball luncheon Friday and I bumped my LTAC up-- at BB game Thursday and saw I was level below Rhinodawg and don't want that ... Hope your wife can beat that cancer--
