It's not that we don't understand. We don't care. Its all just excuses to not do anything. Nut up and do the job necessary to get us where we need to be or move aside for someone that will. If it's so damn impossible, why are we here?

The only time I have been "asked" to up my contribution was when it was decided to put $100/seat tax on my seats... I ended up dropping my level back to what was required for my seats as a protest. I still got my young alumni pass with that, so I said screw it. It made no sense to put a premium price on seats that do not have a waiting list.
Perhaps TMac would be well-served to take the advice of people that have some common sense as it relates to customer service and public perception, because right now, he doesn't have a clue. I understand that it takes the big hitters to fund massive capital projects, but it also takes the little guys to finish them.
Just a quick question, has anyone even seen TMac mingling at the Alumni Pavilion during the tailgate? What about working the crowd at the BB games? Surely the ticket office could give him a list of the season ticket holders. It wouldn't take all 17 men's home games to go say hello to each one. Or even get Marco involved in that, as it's apparently his area of responsibility.
Great post.
LA Tech's leaders have had almost 30 years of Div 1A football to grow our athletic budget, and yet we're still at the bottom of the nations annual budgets. Simply put, if T-Mac --or anyone else for that matter-- can't get the job done, then they should step aside quickly and let someone else do it. SOMEONE will figure it out and get it done.
We probably need another "Derek Dooley" type personality in our AD position. I define this person as someone who's not afraid to break some glass.....someone who absolutely WILL NOT find the size of our current budget acceptable. Of course, his biggest challenge will be to appease Champ967.![]()
Your vitriol is misguided. Exactly what kind of treatment do you expect from T-Mac? I ask, because I KNOW Derek Dooley didn't treat you like a "Squire Creek member", and yet most everyone really seemed to like the job he did at LA Tech (as an AD).
T-Mac is not your friend. He's not your beer drinking buddy, and he will never ask you to play a round of golf. He's your hired gun. Nothing more. And as I've stated many times before, guys like you and I will be here to pick up the pieces long after his kind have left the building and moved on. But, as long as T-Mac is good at what he does --and good for our school-- then I don't care whether or not he even knows my name.
Whether or not T-Mac is good at his job, is a totally different subject. But your athletic donations go to LA Tech, not to T-Mac.
Part of our AD's job is to be an ass kisser. He needs to kiss ass AND LIKE IT to those who give smaller amounts as well as those who give thousands like HD and '65. '
He is an introvert who only speaks a few of the "money peeps" because he has too.
VERY disingenuous!
Same here. I had more contact with Dooley and his successor, and was treated well by both. Now job performance is another subject altogether like HD said. Part of his job is to foster unity, etc amongst the alumni whether big or small donors and T-Mac does not do that well.
Academics needs the money just as much as athletics so as long as the money is going to Tech, that's what matters.
I believe I have seen we have 80,000 living alumni. Let's say 20,000 already give (I know that isn't that high probably). If T-mac and his minions got out shook every little hand of the remaining 60,000 ( even a verbal howdy over the phone ) for $100 that's a budget growth of $6 million a year. While it wouldn't move us to first in CUSA I bet an extra 6 million would put us in the middle which is moving in the right direction.
At a school like Tech we can't afford to turn off/down any money givers, he doesn't get that.
Now that I'm not worked up about it, I'll try to restate my earlier post more ... circumspectly.
I've interated w TMac three times. Each time I felt I was treated poorly. If the management of any other business was rude to me, I'd take my business elsewhere. If the executive of any other philanthropy was rude to me, I'd direct my giving elsewhere.
I decided that Tech ahtletics should be no different. I have high expectiations of Tech officials, especially of the senior leadership. I know that Im small potatoes and don't expect to be coddled. But I do expect some simple decency and professionalism from our leaders, and was denied it three times.
He's not my hired gun. I'm the customer.
I'd be more than happy to take his job, and at a much lower salary. It's apparent that relevant experience isn't necessarily required, so I'm not too worried about that. I won't forget the little people either![]()
It's not that our budget hasn't grown over the past 30 years. We have a $22 million athletic budget. That's almost double from just eight years ago. We've come a long way in a short period of time. The problem is that every school is spending more money on athletics. While we're growing, so is everyone else. Our challenges are not going to change. We are located in a small, rural community. While I believe there is great support in Ruston for Tech athletics, Ruston's population is what it is. And while we can draw some fans from all along I-20 for football games, it's very, very difficult for those same fans to attend other sports. Everyone says they can do a great job marketing Louisiana Tech athletics. We all think that because we're passionate about Tech athletics and think everybody else should feel the same way. It's historically proven that it is extremely difficult to market Louisiana Tech athletics, and I don't think that's going to change anytime soon.
the bold, the beautiful, theprofessor
Agree, the way to increase the budget more at this point is with more fans at games. Maybe making the stadium nicer and continue winning 9 games a year will help with football (it may take an Access Bowl to wake the locals up though). Basketball generated some increased interest when Mike White was here, so it's possible... just have to win in basketball or no one is coming.
Who is funding T-Mac's salary and recent raise? T-Mac's raise could've funded full COA for our entire basketball team. Instead, we're stuck with Tommy for at least 5 more years at a higher price. T-Mac's raise and extension was a terrible use of our limited athletic budget.
