I agree with you. That is why people are turning it off. If they were being punished people wouldn't be so upset over it. And keep in mind there have been many punished for doing good when it was out of compliance with their rules, and they dogged Tebow for kneeling and praying. The owners and league seem to only support the crap. This practice will and is starting to cost them.

Nobody in the league told Tebow not to kneel. His bosses didn't have a problem with it.

I'm baffled that people are so worked up over this. I'm like Clyde though, when the Bulldogs lose I can barely force myself to watch any kind of football that week. How the Dawgs did will often be the determining factor in how much NFL I watch. That and how bad I need an afternoon nap. That will remain the case. These guys aren't hurting anyone, they're just trying to start a conversation about something they think is a problem.

    Until it causes lost revenue...

Are they or are they afraid to rock the boat that they think feeds them right now?

With them it's not principle or right or wrong or ethics - it's $$$$$$$$$$

You are already hearing that you will see less protest this upcoming week - why if it is such a GOOD SOCIAL CAUSE????

Because someone has gone to the players from management and told them to reign it in - you are in essence crapping in your own economic bed and severely damaging our ability to pay you

The number of protests this week was a direct result of Trump inserting himself into the conversation. That's why you'll see less this week (unless Trump pipes up again, but even then, it's likely to be smaller).

I think you're right about the $$$ driving the ship. I'm not sure what the breakdown is on NFL viewers as a whole. Many teams are in very liberal parts of the country where they were glad to see the protests. I'm sure it will hurt them in the short term, but predictions of the NFL dying are very preliminary.

    Re: Turn Off the NFL

And I will add this -

If it was such a good social cause it would have been more widely accepted prior to Trump making his comments - yet you had less than 10% participation and the numbers were falling - if Trump isn't being Trump it never happens, this is a reaction not a planned social change - it's wholly anti-Trump rhetoric....

At least, as much as I despise Kap - at least his actions were REAL and planned, misguided though as they were....

You can't tell me there hasn't been fall out on the local level as far as endorsements in NFL cities - they are already getting the message and I bet next week the rating dip another double digit negative number...

    Re: Turn Off the NFL

And this is coming at the WRONG TIME for the NFLPA - you continue to have public fall-out and outcry from this poorly executed stance (and yes it was poorly executed, except on the Cowboys part) - the more you lose public understanding when you go to the tables

Don't under estimate the savvy of the owners - they gave them this one weekend as a BARGAINING CHIP to be played in a few months

    It's all about the $$$$$$$$$

Thus, free speech from the President can often feel like intimidation.

Do you find our trends troubling? Do you buy his argument that both sides of the isle only seem to value the first amendment when it is used to express opinions we agree with? In my opinion, we have far less tolerance for differing opinions. We can't hear and disagree, we want to silence. I believe the dems set the table for this and the gop doubled down. Victory for "our" tribe seems to have eclipsed our desire for a truly great America for all of her citizens.
I agree that many are quick to claim free speech when it suits them and fail to recognize it when it doesn't. I think there are a lot of people and he is one of them that fail to recognize free speech in all of it's forms. As Dwayne says below, you're free speech right does not protect your job within your workplace. Only that the government can't take action against you for your speech. I agree that both sides are guilty of stifling free speech and failure to listen to the other side. What so many fail to recognize is there is absolutely nothing I can do to infringe upon anyone's right to free speech.
Saying I disagree with you, saying your cause is stupid, saying your form of protest is stupid does not infringe upon anyone's rights.

I find a failure to listen to opposing viewpoints troubling. It is not an assault on free speech.

Edit to add: I also find it very troubling that so many people (including very learned people) fail to see the difference between free speech and an assault on free speech. Very similar to Antifa supporting fascist ideals.

Threats of violence would hinder free speech. We've seen violence from one side in many cases when free speech was or was about to be exercised. Berkley is the most recent, but Kapernick's original stance was on the heels of the violence caused by the Police (according to Obama and Holder)

Was with a bunch of liberals (won't use "libtards" because these people actually think a little, even though they usually arrive at the wrong conclusion), and this topic came up (shock ). When I made the point that I don't like/agree with the manner in which NFL players have chosen to "protest," because it impugns America and AMERICANS in general i.e. paints with a broad brush, one of my lib friends replied, "well, if some NFL players went on their own time and carried signs in front of a police station you (meaning "me" and people like "me") wouldn't have noticed and wouldn't have cared." She actually understands why many of us are upset by the show of disrespect for the flag and the National Anthem. But, the ends justifies the means in her opinion.

    Just a small insight....

Correct, IMO, the reason Tebow is brought up is with the largely negative and mocking light his kneeling was reported versus the almost fawning coverage the "brave" kneelers receive. I get where they are coming from and don't mind the actual kneeling (as it indicates more reverence than standing), but they are anything but brave.

And she is exactly correct. Sitting/kneeling for the Anthem was going to get noticed and was going to draw attention. It was honestly probably one of the best ways for him to get attention (besides spending his own money to start an awareness campaign/charity). He got the platform and then botched the execution when he was given the spotlight. It sounded a lot like he was intentionally disrespecting America over perceived injustice. Then it got worse from there.

    Are they?

Or is a group of ENTITLED SELF-IDULGENT INDIVIDUALS issuing a response saying YOU are not going to tell me what I should/would say or do and now by enlarge it has backfired on them in public opinion...

If they were SERIOUSLY taking a stance about a socio-economic issues shouldn't there been more than Kap and a handful of others before now...
