yawn--- impossible to take you serious -- when you have a athletic scholarship named after you its funny to see a hater like you taking himself so serious --- actually see it as compliment when you throw stupid stuff out there-- and you are 100% RIGHT-- things are GREAT!! we won't waste time trying to explain the difference in Great and Perfect --
OMG! You have a REAL SCHOLARSHIP named for you?! (I cant believe you've never mentioned that before!)
Wow, that changes everything. You must be really important.
We are all going to agree with you -- 100 percent -- from now on. You are surely the greatest Tech fan ever.
To hell with Dawg06 and his lame-ass "facts".
I bet he doesnt even have a scholarship name for him. Loser.
Dogsince65... I appreciate the dog out of you!! Stay positive brother... Tech grows with people like you and falls without people like you. True Blue! Don't let them sour you on this program.
It's an impressive number, but understand that monies to pay down debt is also being run through the RCAF. That's where the vast majority of that money is going - to pay off debt. LTAC at Tech had similar numbers a few years ago when money was being raised for the endzone facility and press box. Tech simply separates those monies differently.
Without it you would have $55 million is debt service payments over the next 26 years to pay off the loan and GO bonds that funded your recent construction projects.
Kent,
I appreciate your enthusiasm. Understand, I'm not trying to make any type of derogatory remark about the Cajun program. Far from it. I'm simply trying to point out the reason for the spending.
Your program was at rock bottom in December, 2017. In some ways it still is until it can get on the field and win some games. Given that fact and the history of the program from a coach's perspective, you had to overpay for the market.
Fortunately, over the decades Tech has never had to do that. We've been able to attract quality assistants without have to overreach. Within CUSA, Southern Miss is another good example. Over the decades, they've been able to attract assistants without having to overpay. A combination of environment and winning along with the ability to advance in career are all factors.
To give an example in the corporate world look at Wells Fargo. They had a scandal a few years ago and have gone on a hiring spree nationwide looking for auditors, compliance, anti-money laundering people, etc... in an attempt to get their house in order. To do so, they're paying as much as 50% more for those positions than their competitors. Otherwise, they would never attract quality people given what they're just gone through.
To follow-up on my previous post, I'm sure you've had to overpay for the staff you've put together, but a few things are worth pointing out: About your coordinators - Ron Roberts has never coached in the FBS. Rob Sale carried a coordinator's title at McNeese years ago, but it appears he has never been a play caller. Matt Viator called his own plays. Tim Leger is a good guy, but he and your other former ULM assistant didn't produce a winning record at ULM. I thought Juluke was a good coach while at Tech, but his recruiting prowess was clearly overblown.
For having to overpay, your staff isn't quite what I thought it would be. Also, you've thrown out the number "$2 million". I've seen that number used on the RaginPagin, which is always correct. Can you provide us with a link to that number.

Lafayette is where coaching careers go to die.
Has a USL head coach ever gone on to anything else?
Augie Tammariello used his .467 winning percentage as a coach to land a gig as a State Farm Agent.
Nelson Stokley took his Clemson OC credentials and a .443 winning percentage as the Couyon's coach to land a retirement gig.
Ricky Bustle won 38 percent of his games as a USL head coach after a solid career as an assistant in other places that won consistently. He's still coaching, but as the OC at a religious school in Georgia. It's easy see why a guy might find Jesus after coaching at USL.
Jerry Baldwin won just 18 percent of his games, but appears to be the ONLY USL coach to ever go on to be a head coach afterwards, even though he's coaching at a HS. He too found Jesus and is involved in the ministry. I'm sensing a trend. I'd probably find Jesus, too, if I were a USL coach.
Mark Hudspeth rode his .449 Ragin Cajun winning percentage all the way from being Associate Head coach at Mississippi State to irrelevance, obscurity and disgrace. He had a few stops at academic fraud, improper payments and NCAA rules violations along the way. Hell, apparently USL is only good when they cheat. Unfortuantely, the couyons can't even do that correctly.
I fear for the coaching careers of Tim Leger and Rob Sale. They're both good guys. I'm not sure they thought this all thte way through. USL may be more coaching Purgatory than coaching Hell, but there appears to be only one road to escape from that place and it involves salvation and coming to Jesus.
If you're going to coach at USL, make sure your insurance license is up to date, and that you're on a first name basis with your pastor. The divine intervention certainly can't hurt.
This kind of post is what makes this site interesting. I could care less about some Cajun's peacock-strutting and hyperbole and statements about how grand and glorious the future will be. What have you done in the past to amount to anything that did not involve cheating or the city of New Orleans? Let's see the facts. If the only criteria is money raised, I'm sure Rice and Vanderbilt should be competing for National Championships. As was said, it's not how much money you raise, but what has been the results? How many P5 games have ever been won by a USL football team, maybe two?
And one of those P5 games was in Lafayette.
