It really depends on the focus of the teacher. My Masters and beyond work focused on the era of Huey, so my students get beat over the head with that era. Other teachers spend an inordinate amount of time on antebellum Louisiana and others on the colonization and early settlement. Everyone skips from 1898 to Huey. As time goes forward, it just gets more difficult to cover all the time period. In American History, we started teaching the survey over 100 years ago with the course divided into two sections, now we have to cram 100 years more into those two courses, so something has to get overlooked. Same with Western Civ, although until this year I hadn't had to deal with that in 20 years.
JAAgan, you're correct, but when I took Louisiana History there were almost 60 years less to study.
Judge Harmon Drew Jr had, or may still have, the Harmon Drew Supergroup. A great cover band for many years. A daughter of his was a KD with two of my daughters in the early 2000's.
