The op-ed is very curious. If you really are working to undermine the president from within, why would you out yourself and alert the President and his ally's that this is going on?
It wouldn't surprise me if it is someone within the white house, although I would be surprised if it is someone high profile. I suspect it is someone low level making themselves out to be the hero. If and when they are found out they will be a media darling.

That is the main reason why I suggested it was Pence. Impeachment will either require House Republicans to start taking their job seriously (unlikely) or a Dem takeover in the midterms. The op-ed could help with either, but certainly with the latter.
