Just had a conversation with a young man from Honduras, a student at NSU. Here legally, and a very fine young man. His comments on the immigration issue is interesting. You can guess what he thinks about it.
Actually the wall did work. Did it keep ALL invaders out? Nope! But when 100,000 Huns attack a portion of the wall, defended by fewer than 1,000 Chinese soldiers, the Huns got through. But even then it forced the Huns to channel supplies, reinforcements through gaps and hindered their operations.
I didn't finish my previous post...duty called.
The Great Wall of China was also breached centuries later by the Mongols. But, like the Huns, we're talking about some of the most successful armies in history. Nothing, including walls, was going to "stop" the Huns and later the Mongols from invading China. It did make it a little more difficult and it did create logistic issues for the invaders. In the case of the Mongols one of its smaller armies, off raiding to the north, was counter-attacked by a large Chinese army and those Mongols got trapped with their backs up against the wall and were utterly routed. Of course...all that did was piss off Ghengis Khan who sent one of his large armies to avenge his losses.
But...we're not talking about military invasions...now are we. But ALL ACCOUNTS the Great Wall of China did keep out "immigrants." Those nomadic tribes of Eurasia who would migrate, take up residence in a place, and then move on leaving depleted resources behind. While historians agree the Great Wall was built specifically as an anti-military invasion measure (Huns and Mongols), they also agree a side benefit...an unintended benefit...was stopping "illegal immigration."
And the "Trump Wall" is not intended to stop a military invasion either. As the Chinese learned, and historians agree, it will stop "unwanted" immigration.
To get around a wall you bribe the gate keeper. This goes back thousands of years. This is also what's happening at the ports. Trump wants to fix that. The socialist democrats don't.

You have been misled.
The Jan 3 House Bill included:
• More than $1.3 billion for new fencing in the Rio Grande Valley and funding to replace secondary fencing in San Diego and other existing pedestrian fencing.
• $366.5 million for border security technology.
• $7.7 million to hire 328 additional U.S. Customs and Border Protection customs officers.
• $224.6 million for "non-intrusive Inspection equipment" at ports of entry.
• $7.08 billion for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
It is Trump that would rather grandstand than solve the problem.
Wow, do you trust the socialist business models. They offered a big nothing compared to what is needed. What you and CNN are suggesting is that Trump just take the scraps offered, walk away, and let the the half ass socialist agenda of open borders grow more voters for them.
What leverage does he have? The dems will certainly put the screws to him now because they can. He knows another shut down is a loser and he knows the declaration of emergency is incredibly problematic and will face challenges in the courts (according to his advisors...which he listens to sometimes).
He can compromise and get something or not compromise and get nothing. Those are the only options.
