I guess it depends on whose labor you're talking about. Capital is certainly more valuable than labor at times, but I can personally introduce you to a couple of ultra wealthy guys that make untold millions of dollars sitting at their computer screens making deals everyday. Both of these guys own companies that provide goods and services, and both built their businesses from the ground up. While their reinvestment of earnings (or capital) definitely made their companies more profitable, what built both of them was the investment, labor, dedication, and sacrifice that each of these guys put into them.

Exceptions to the rule. On average, Capital is more valuable than labor in the US economy. By a long shot. That is why wage growth doesn’t remotely keep up with the growth rate since the 1970s. There are people that made money on their labor and their are people that lost capital. But in general the spoils have gone to the shareholders over the workers.

And the example of people doing deals at their computer screen all day - that sounds more like investing capital rather than labor, but you were kind of short on details.

You can put all the effort and dedication into your business, but if the product or services aren’t valued, it won’t amount to much. Capitalism doesn’t reward effort and hard work - that is just a slogan - it rewards value.

I think you are way off with your opinion. Capital by itself does not guarantee success. It's when a properly capitalized business is combined with a culture of good work ethics that it is likely to succeed. Therefore, our capitalist system does indeed reward effort and hard work.

Capitalism rewards good work ethic and bad worth ethic, alike, as long as it produces the same value in the eyes of the market.

I have already broken this down for you, and you just refuse to see it. “A capitalized business with good work ethic” - you are describing BOTH pieces - the capital and then the work ethic (the labor). If that business is like most business, the majority of the profit will go to reward the person contributing capital over the person contributing labor. And to the extent it is the same person (a tiny minority on a weighted average basis) - I bet you that more often than not, that person is rewarded more as a shareholder/owner than he is as a laborer (wage).

I didn’t say it shouldn’t be. But it is disingenuous and inaccurate to believe otherwise. If Pawdawg and Brtransplant believe in the myth of capitalism rewarding hard work, and if they spread this myth to others, they will fail to appreciate how our economy actually works, and failing to recognize how the system actually works results in the collective detriment of those that believe the myth rather than reality.

In general, working hard is probably better than being lazy, but applying your effort (no matter how much you use) correctly is even better. Whether you figure out how to apply your effort through a random guess, hard work, perceptiveness, birthright/inheritance, tutelage - the economy doesn’t reward it any differently.

Capitalism rewards hard work. Some work smarter than others. None of your socialistic studies point that out. You don't get to have an opinion about the evils of capitalism until you can define rich and middle income.

Nice slogan, but it isn’t factual. It isn’t the way our economy works. There is no requirement of hard work and hard work doesn’t necessarily create market value.

it's a fact that goes against your beliefs system so you refuse to believe it. It's still a fact

How you define “rich” is not relevant to what I am talking about. I am talking about the fact that in the US, Capital is valued and rewarded more than hard work. That is undebatably true.

Not arguing whether that is good or bad. There are probably policy reasons that influence the degree to which Capital is rewarded more. Maybe we should take a closer look at that. But that isn’t socialism, it is just evaluating how our policies incentivize the rewards in our capitalist system.

So you don't have a problem with anybody who is born wealthy being able to leverage that wealth to make more?
