    Week 5

CUSA went 0-4 in non-conference games this week. The league absolutely sucks. Thankfully, and unbelievably, we ain't the worst, thanks to the MAC.

The MAC went 1-2 this week, thanks to Toledo beating BYU (I hold a certification from the Univ of Toledo's Business Grad School...Go Rockets!), but, Akron lost the ultimate pillow fight to UMASS...so, the MAC really sucks!

The Belch went 1-0, albeit just Texas State beating lowly Nicholls.

Meanwhile Sonny Dykes has SMU at 5-0 and rolling! Can't wait to see Dykes put his hooks in Skippy this time around, oh man!

On the national stage, Clemson escaped. Bama and Ohio State are playing the best football right now, but that can change.

On the scale of awful - It's the MAC's turn this year. It's was CUSA's turn last year ( to some degree), and the Sun Belt's turn in 2017. It's come in cycles over the past five years.

Although, in fairness, over those same five years CUSA has proven itself in bowl games. CUSA's issue over that span has been the fact it's a 14-team league. The very bottom of the league has been the problem.

A poster on the CUSA Forum is tracking the OOC...must be a gluten for punishment.

CUSA is now 19-29 OOC this season. That includes 0-8 vs. MWC/AAC combined, and 6-1 vs. MAC/Belch combined and 0-17 vs. P5 teams. That's a combined 6-26 vs. other FBS. And 13-3 vs FCS teams.

    CUSA SUCKS!!!!!!!!

    Re: Week 5

With the current status of C-USA and the declining attendance, what are the pros and cons of Tech and Southern Miss joining the Sunbelt?

Heck, expanding the Sun-Belt to 14 teams by also adding UAB and North Texas could actually create a decent conference.

    West:
    Louisiana Tech
    North Texas
    Southern Miss
    Arkansas State
    ULM
    ULL
    Texas State

    East:
    Troy
    South Alabama
    Georgia State
    UAB
    Georgia Southern
    Coastal
    App State

Tech plays cross-divisional rival UAB every year, and another rotating team from the East.

I think the Joe would be far more energetic and crowded with Tech facing ULM, ULL, Arkansas State, Troy, etc. over FIU, UTSA, and Rice. Not to mention the distance to schools like Charlotte, ODU, Marshall, WKU, FAU and even UTEP. The way C-USA has spread geographically does not fit our program any longer. C-USA football is a shadow of what the WAC was in its prime. Unless there is a large financial benefit to C-USA, what else am I missing that would make it superior to the Sunbelt?

And don’t come back with crap like “We are superior to ULM and ULL and shouldn’t even give them the chance to play us.” A Tech-ULM matchup at this point would be a game-changer for ticket sales and fan base excitement.

I'm good with it. It's who we are. We are stuck with a lightweight AD so we aren't going anywhere anyway.

    Re: Week 5

Attendance is down not because of who we are playing but because of administrative problems regarding tailgating, parking, season ticket issues, concessions, game day experiences and a lackluster product on the field. Playing ULM and ULL won’t change that. Every decade or so if playing a game against those might generate temporary excitement but would not be sustainable. Those two teams are excited for the first fame of a series but not subsequent games. Most tech fans not excited about playing either regardless.

Oops! I misread his thread, slight correction:

we are 7-28 vs FBS and 12-1 vs. FCS.

Doesn't change the bottom line....CUSA SUCKS!

Fire Skippy and hire Sonny! That'll boost attendance.

But, you're right, most of Tech's problems are self-inflicted. Scheduling the UL-X's on rare occasion, like a home/home every 10 years, will give a temporary boost to attendance. But if we played more regularly the excitement would wane quickly.

Our crappy Southland Conference AD has wrecked Tech football. He needs to go first, followed by a change in head coach. Going to games should be fun, and for most that means ON and OFF the field. For me, I'd be satisfied with a better product ON the field.

    Re: Week 5

I took his main point to be that C-USA is not a good fit for us.

Yes, our fans turn out for games when we play either school. We've never turned out for USM the way we turned out for ULM. I'd say our turnout for USM and LaLaff are/have been about the same.

We had better attended games when we were in the WAC than we do now. This problem is on our AD and his boss.

Our AD is the biggest problem. He is in way over his head and must go.

Yep, I told everyone, (PD just wouldn't listen, haha!), Sonny Dykes will build a winner fast at SMU. And he has. SMU is now 5-0, including a big win over TCU. And they aren't just winning, SMU is KILLING people. More importantly, SMU is FUN TO WATCH!!

But what happens when Sonny gets his next shot with a big program? He flops and gets fired in 2-3 seasons. SMU returns to mediocrity immediately unless they are lucky enough to hire another run and gun coach like Sonny.

Sooooo you're saying, why bother hiring a head coach that might take us to 11-2, or 12-1, because he's just gonna leave anyway? Seriously?

    Re: Week 5

As long as TM is the AD we might as well join the Sunbelt - cause he won’t get us anywhere else

He may be worse than Stovall. Let that sink in - TM has ruined the game day atmosphere at JAS - but the few hundred in the suites and SEZ are happy - they’ll be the only fans in attendance.

”Tommy Mid Major” is who we are.

I’m just saying that the circumstances don’t change for teams like us or SMU. 2-3 good seasons then 5-8 mediocre. Hard to be excited about that. We have basically had the same roller coaster existence for +2 decades.
