Heck, expanding the Sun-Belt to 14 teams by also adding UAB and North Texas could actually create a decent conference.
West:
Louisiana Tech
North Texas
Southern Miss
Arkansas State
ULM
ULL
Texas State
East:
Troy
South Alabama
Georgia State
UAB
Georgia Southern
Coastal
App State
Tech plays cross-divisional rival UAB every year, and another rotating team from the East.
I think the Joe would be far more energetic and crowded with Tech facing ULM, ULL, Arkansas State, Troy, etc. over FIU, UTSA, and Rice. Not to mention the distance to schools like Charlotte, ODU, Marshall, WKU, FAU and even UTEP. The way C-USA has spread geographically does not fit our program any longer. C-USA football is a shadow of what the WAC was in its prime. Unless there is a large financial benefit to C-USA, what else am I missing that would make it superior to the Sunbelt?
And don’t come back with crap like “We are superior to ULM and ULL and shouldn’t even give them the chance to play us.” A Tech-ULM matchup at this point would be a game-changer for ticket sales and fan base excitement.
