Serious question...and I understand no one here may actually know, so speculation is welcomed!
Has Skip Holtz ever thrown his hat in the ring for an open coaching job since he's been at Tech?
I haven't heard anything and I don't recall seeing anything official saying Holtz is being considered for such and such job. So, I would say no, he hasn't ever seriously pursued another job. So, given that, is it really because he's legitimately not been interested OR! is it because his agent and/or the grapevine has warned him off saying he had no chance?
No he has never been seriously considered. Only those who think our assistants need raises and more money (including Joe Sloan who has never received an offer) think he is worth the extra money our former AD paid him (along with our other underperforming HCs).
It's past time to hold him accountable for declining attendance, ticket sales, LTAC giving, and no wins against P5s.
Can someone please stop this carousel so we get Holtz on it. His ticket at Tech has been punched. I didn’t opt To use my tickets this year because of Covid and now I’m not re-upping them as long as Holtz remains HC.
Holtz does love it in Ruston, and that’s the problem. I believe he intends to retire here, and as long as he has 6+ wins most years, he will be able to. There is no pressure from anyone with any stroke as long as he outperforms ULM. Unfortunately, that is the bar that he has to exceed in Ruston to keep his job. And while he’s golfing, other teams that we were creaming 3-4 years ago are now leaving us behind.
Not for Illinois- those weren’t his players nor apparently his chosen style of play. Miami- sure I’ll give him full credit those were most certainly all his players and his style of score and hold on for dear life football.
But doing it in the regular season would mean he is trying to build an all around competitive program. Up to this point he has seen the bowl games as his only measuring stick to job security. This year with the extension and COVID he saw no reason to work and it showed.
