We are up to 21 in WM. It’s a heat wave!
It’s 8 degrees here in the Tyler outskirts and will be 4 degrees in the morning. Generator here as well. But one rolling brownout last night for an hour.
Keeping the livestock fed and watered had been a bit$@. But twice a day works. 😳
It's 8am in McKinney, TX, and it's 0 degrees, according to Weather.com. That's right, ZERO. I've never seen temperatures like this.
A good whole-house generator is the best investment you can make home wise -
Forget fancy countertops, outdoor kitchens and such
Plop that 7 grand down on 22 kw Generac with a Kohler engine and a good ATS system
And if you are on propane bury that 500 gal tank

The best stand by generators are Kohler. Followed by Briggs-Stratton, and Generac a distant third. That according to consumer reports and a number of professional analysis. I don't think Kohler is the best because I have one...I have one because they are the best. And yes, the most expensive too.
My sister, who lives in Madisonville, has had a Briggs-Stratton brand for nearly 20 years and she's always had good service from it. Originally she bought a B-S because they offered a better longtime warranty than Kohler did at that time. But now Kohler is matching B-S and also offers, for a small extra fee, an extended warranty. We are fortunate we live in a really good area of town that rarely loses power. All of our power lines are buried and we have a separate relay station that has back-up generators and batteries. (it helps to live in the same 'hood as a former mayor who was looking after himself). We were without power, supplied by the city, for 36 hours after Laura. But that was because the city now buys a lot of its power from suppliers like CLECO and SWEPCO, and only generates a small portion on its own. Once the suppliers restored transmission into the city, we were back online.
Depending where you live and how stable/unstable your power supply is, I agree, a stand-by generator is a very good investment.
BTW...since this is the football forum and a coaching carousel thread...I wonder if Holtz has a stand-by generator at his Ruston abode. It will help him sell his house faster when that SEC offer comes...any year now.
Never had an issue - I find that with most things, it's who you buy the product from and how well you maintain it
I have a 22kw at the house - installed and serviced by Albritton Services out of Ruston, they service it annually for me for about $150 (also have 10 year bumper to bumper warranty)...
I have NUMEROUS Generacs here at the Parish on parish buildings ranging from 125kw to 27kw - most all were installed by Taylor Power Systems on either bid or lowest quote - ALL are serviced on an annual basis by the same people - they come on when they are supposed to and have to - we depend on them tremendously, especially since most of our buildings are serviced by Entergy - we have a mix of diesel and natural gas with a few LPs - I would say engine make-up is split about 50-50 between Kohler and Briggs & Stratton - since generac doesn't make an engine
I chose Generac solely because of the service I get out of the machines we have here at the parish with them - they work when the lights go out
Got to use a reputable dealer - and I'm not talking Lowes or Home Depot or Bob your neighbor the electrician and you have got to service those car engines under that shell - fi you don't they will fail most every time (basically if someone is quoting you $6k for a whole house with ATS they are selling you undersized shotty equipment)
A lot of the chicken houses around here use a John Deere based system for ag purposes, but nearly all have a Generac at their houses

Good to know. I just had a Generac 22 kw installed about two weeks ago running on propane. We had been talking about it for years, but finally made the decision after losing power for a few days after the hurricane last summer. It took almost 3 months from the time I signed the contract until the job was completed—mainly due to the backlog for getting the generator. I haven’t lost power so far, but it’s good to know we should be ok if we do. I live outside of West Monroe.
