.....Of course. I don't know why these CUSA teams can't wise up and book a LATER FLIGHT to begin with,? I guess because it makes too much sense. If we all booked our flights like CUSA teams, we'd be missing half of our business meetings late in the day. Like many of you, I take nighttime flights all the time. These people need to grow up a bit. Again, these are not young children traveling with ID cards around their neck.
I'm so tired of hearing about CUSA teams "travel problems". You rarely hear similar complaints from other conferences. You would think we are in the only conference in America that has to travel for games.![]()
It's funny. Many of you guys have all finally come around to my "strategic cancellation theory" that I warned everybody about months ago. Nobody wanted to admit it back then, but everybody seems to be "all in" now, as long as it helps your teams RPI. We've now seen "strategic cancellations" in all 3 of the major sports across CUSA. Saw yesterday that William & Mary baseball cancelled this week's game against ODU. No explanation was given why. That now makes three separate in-state schools --George Mason, UVA and William & Mary-- that have cancelled baseball games on ODU this season.
I wish everyone would just play the games in front of them, and knock off the nonsense.
If they want to do these 4 game conferences weekends they need to let teams travel on Mondays when flying home if needed. Prefer the 3 game schedule myself.
SportsDawg....I know you're smarter than that. It's really simple. If a team can't get 4 games played in one weekend, then don't schedule 'em. But if you want to try, maybe you have to do something different (rut row, there's the most hated word in LA Tech athletic history, haha!) For example, maybe you start play at 8 AM Sunday morning, instead of 10 AM. Or maybe you spend Sunday night in Ruston/Monroe/Shreveport, and fly back the next day. Or maybe you transport the team via rental vans to DFW, and then take one of those $49 non-stop flights I was just reading about to Charleston or Huntington from DFW. And I haven't even bothered to check flights from Jackson, MS, or other airports.
Or how 'bout this: Why couldn't we play a "triple header" on a Saturday? Yeah, I know it would be a little unorthodoxed, but so what? It might even give us some additional national publicity. Tournament softball teams play 3 games -and often more- in one day all the time. (Back in the day, I routinely played 6 games a day during a double elimination softball Tournaments, if we won enough.) Tech could start Game 1 at 9AM, start the 2nd game at 1:30, and start the last game at 6 PM. That's 4 and a half hours between each start. And don't give me the "tired player" story. You and I both know baseball is a sport that allows most of the players (non-pitchers) to expend very little energy during a game. Especially for 18-22 yr olds.
BTW I think my "Triple Header" is a great idea. Just call it "A Day with the Dawgs", and have people tailgating between games, etc...all day long. Kinda like USM's fans were doing a couple of weeks ago in Hattiesburg.
But, for the love of Pete, don't make somebody else do ALL THE THINKING. If they want me to fix the schedule, I can fix it. But they haven't asked for the help, so that means somebody else has got to do some thinking for a change.
HD, only 2 baseball games or parts of games can played in one day by NCAA rules.
Even if a suspended game takes only one pitch to complete, the teams involved can only play one more game that day.
I figured there was a "rule" reason why we don't already see any Triple Headers. Why would the NCAA have a rule like that? Why do they care how many baseball games you play in a day? (I know you're going to say "health" reasons, which is absurd considering we're talking about the sport of baseball, where 90% of the young players on the field don't burn 100 calories in an entire game.)
It would be more a time limitation thing instead of "health" reasons. And that isn't hard to see when Sunday's 7-inning doubleheader took almost six hours of actual playing time and 6 1/2 hours of total time including between games to play. A 7-inning tripleheader could easily run 8-9 hours, and would likely go over 10 hours with 9-inning games.
Softball is allowed to play three games in one day.
