As long as we don’t fall flat on our face the next 2 weeks, I like our chances. I don’t see them choosing 3 Mississippi teams to host, so I think Southern Miss has a very hard road to get there. I also think the fact that LSU or ULL not being in the running for a host site helps us. Plus I think our back story with the tornado and new stadium helps us too. .
If we can at least split with ODU and win 2+ in the tournament, I think we can make it. Fingers crossed.

At this point pending their SEC tournament play LSU could snatch away Tech’s home hosting opportunity. It’s true they schooled us this season which sucks enormously but for us to then lose hosting to them would be horrific! Let’s hope this something of a hard earned Cinderella type season continues like destiny.
LSU is not in the running for hosting a regional.

Are you sure that can’t be changed should LSU pull off one of their crazy lucky endings and win the SEC tournament?

Yes, because the final sites will be chosen from the list above.

From the 20 initial consideration host sites; Arizona, Arkansas, East Carolina, Florida, MS State, Notre Dame, Ole Miss, Oregon, TCU (-), Tennessee, Texas, Texas Tech & Vanderbilt are what I’d consider 13 sure bets with TCU having an asterisk for their ULM catastrophe. If that marked a late season collapse TCU could fall out in the blink of an eye. They play at K-State this last weekend who are pretty good at home.

So based on my numbers of the remaining 7 lesser positioned teams; Gonzaga, Pittsburgh, S Carolina, S Miss, Stanford, Charlotte & LA Tech there are only 3 open spots. That’s awfully slim pickings made even more so considering there are 3 CUSA teams in the group of 7.

I do think Charlotte, Tech and Southern Miss are very well positioned as serious possible hosts as long as they don’t ‘lose’ their way the rest of the season.

As wild as this season has been already for Tech fans it’s not going to get any easier trying to capture hosting a NCAA first round. The thing is that with it being so historically close to being in our grasp it’d suck big time for it to slip through our fingers.

    Good luck Dawgs!

Via biased SEC wishes and Ump calls of course. 🥴

Since Gonzaga is one of only three potential hosting schools in the west (along with Oregon & Arizona), I would say it's highly likely that the Zags get one of those hosting spots.

Re: NCAA preliminary site list (Ruston, Charlotte, Hattiesburg included)

I’m thinking and hoping that RPIs aren’t going to be the all important deciding factors this year like they have been in the past because this Covid season has been so limiting in so many ways. I’m not going to analyze every conference, but I know plenty of conferences have done things so differently this year that RPIs are not a consistently fair measure this year like simple wins and loses are. Having said that, I’m 99% sure the NCAA will have the host sites be who they want them to be even if they have to use 10 different formulas to get them there. As much as Tech’s wins, loses and RPI plays into their chances to host, so does the story of Tech’s weather related hardships and their new facility, it’s a really good comeback story. I’m going to do all I can with crossed fingers and toes and just hope Tech continues to win.

I agree that our story would sell. TV sets and seats. I imagine people who just love baseball may turn out just to be a part of it.

This is the exact scenario I have written down. Those same 7 teams for the final 3 spots. Although I have Pittsburgh out of the running, so 6 teams for 3 spots.

I agree with HogDawg that Gonzaga will likely take one of those spots, so that would leave 5 teams for 2 spots. I'll be following South Carolina and Stanford closely this weekend (playing #4 Tennessee and #10 Oregon, respectively) hoping they lose 2 or 3 each.

I ultimately think Stanford gets to host (will be the only regional in California) and South Carolina misses the cut, leaving only 1 CUSA team to host. Unless the tournament champion is someone other than Tech, S Miss, or Charlotte, I think the tournament champion will be the one to host.

NSU has a pretty big advantage though:

    They're not Tech.

LSU dropped from 18 to 22, 12 RPI points or 0.0012 ahead of Tech (0.5723 to 0.5711).

Miami dropped to 24 after FAU's 3-0 win in Coral Gables last night, and that moved Tech up to 23.
