If what I hear is right, our communications and air support were withdrawn as well. Air support should not have been withdrawn until the last civilian and soldier were moved out. Just the sound of a fighter jet sends those terrorists scampering for a mountain cave. Again, Trump may have had the same plan, but if Biden was so much more savvy, he wouldn’t have ordered this move in this fashion. They can both be wrong. It’s okay to admit that Biden is as capable of doing his job as a styrofoam packing peanut would be.

as usual I am a voice of reason on this forum. I always tell it like it is, and in this case, there are many moving parts.

First, yes Biden et al are bungling the Afghan withdrawal and as such many innocent, good people will be harmed. It's a cluster f_ _ k there! This is a fact and even Goosey won't be able to cover for the clown show that is the Biden administration. Noteworthy too is how Biden has gone into hiding...again...during this crisis. Have a new adjective to add to the list:

    Sleepy, Creepy, Hidin' Joe Biden

Yes, this all should have been and could have been handled much better. But...

if Trump was POTUS we would have seen something similar. Maybe not as big a mess, but a mess nonetheless. Just varying degrees of a cluster f _ _ k.

No matter who was POTUS, the end of our involvement in that effed-up place was going to end very badly for lots of people. Unfortunately good folks...your average Afghan citizen...was going to get screwed big time and there is nothing humanly possible to avoid that. This is another Vietnam. Let me repeat that...this is another Vietnam. Well, even worse! In Vietnam's case we have a nation of people who actually LIKE the West/the US and MOST importantly, a government in 'nam that does too. The Vietnamese do not like the Chicoms, as recent overtures to ally with anti-Chicom nations reveals. In Afghanistan there are lots and lots of average folks who love the West/US but none of them have any power/influence on what is going on and worse, what will go on there.

But, Afghanistan = Vietnam insomuch as we were NEVER going to win there...NEVER! Let this reality sink in. And, so like Vietnam all we can do is cut bait and get out. And, never, ever go back.

In summary, yes Biden et al are bungling the end of our involvement in Afghanistan. Yes, it could have been conducted much better. But no matter who was POTUS we were going to see images reflective of 1975 Vietnam in 2021 Afghanistan.
NEVER send the military anyplace you don't want to completely destroy, dominate and occupy. The dims and neo-cons have been doing this for decades with a track record of abysmal failure, and it has cost many "friends" of the US and their families dearly.

Our military is NOT a police force. This whole fiasco is just a big defund the police movement, Afghanistan version.

I know if I lived in one of these nations and saw the US coming over to "help", I'd either join the folks shooting at our troops or at the very least make sure I was not helping the Americans IN ANY WAY....because I know when they abandon me I will be left to the sadistic desires of the very people I was supposedly helping them defeat.

    Re: President Biden

How would Dawg80 have handled the withdrawal from Afghanistan as POTUS?

1). Quietly remove Americans from Afghanistan. Cover it by saying diplomats and others are heading home for a short vacation and/or reassignment. Start QUIETLY removing as many helpful Afganis as possible. 1B).NO ANNOUNCEMENT the US was pulling out. In fact, just the opposite, publicly state we were there for the long haul.
2). Step up attacks on the Taliban...best defense is a good offense. Greatly degrade the Taliban's ability to conduct military operations.
3). Quietly make it clear to the powers-that-be they had a very short time period left to actually take control of their country.
4). Then after a VERY careful planning, suddenly insert overwhelming transports and US forces to secure the Kabul airport and other airbases where evacuees had been moved the night before.
5). Keep up OVERWHELMING air attacks as Taliban forces attempted to interrupt the withdrawal. I mean vicious air assaults. The kind we are very capable of!

Still, at the end of day, the US would come out looking like a loser. That's because we did lose the war in Afghanistan, just like Genghis Khan, Alexander the Great, the Brits, and the Soviets all did too.

Now the "adults" say we have to bring 40,000-60,000 Afghan refugees directly to bases in the U.S.

Try moving them to our numerous military bases in the Middle East first. More refugees can be moved quicker, and a robust vetting process is needed before bring any of these people directly into the heart of the homeland.

If the "adults" go through with this, they are begging for multiple terrorist attacks as bad or worse than 9-11.

ETA--now news is being reported that Americans trying to get out of Afghanistan will not--repeat WILL NOT--have priority over Afghans being evacuated.

Today's Rasmussen numbers before the freefall from the Afghan debacle is fully factored in:

Approval Index -17 (26% Strongly Approve to 43% Strongly Disapprove)
    46% approval (down from 47%)
    53% disapproval (up from 52%)

Looks like the "adults" have reverted to acting like the children that we know they are. And that is an insult to many children.

That is what you call leadership. It doesn’t look like populism.

"We cannot continue the cycle of extending or expanding our military presence in Afghanistan hoping to create the ideal conditions for our withdrawal, expecting a different result," Biden said. "I am now the fourth American president to preside over an American troop presence in Afghanistan. Two Republicans. Two Democrats. I will not pass this responsibility to a fifth."

The picture posted showing Xiden at Camp David on videoconference shows the time between Moscow and London as a 3-hour difference.

The problem with that is that the time difference between London and Moscow has been a 2-hour difference since March 28. Moscow does not observe daylight time in the summer and hasn't since 2010.

Either the picture is a fake (likely and less disturbing) or the idiots running things have no clue (dangerous).

    Re: President Biden

In a statement, the former president Trump wrote that the U.S. "can and should get out earlier" from Afghanistan and that Sept. 11 "should remain a day of reflection and remembrance honoring those great souls we lost."

"Getting out of Afghanistan is a wonderful and positive thing to do. I planned to withdraw on May 1st, and we should keep as close to that schedule as possible," said the former president.

They are not likely to do us any favors.

I suspect there are many folks in Taiwan who are indeed very nervous about our willingness to actually help defend them. I also think our anti-Chicom allies, namely India, Japan, Australia, Great Britain, and the others will all wait to see what the US's reaction will be to an actual hostile act by the Chicoms toward Taiwan. If a shooting war erupts, and IF the US and our allies react, the short term results will be a decided Chicom ass-whupping. But, they have only to look at Vietnam and Afghanistan, and probably Iraq as well soon, for the winning formula...just never give up, you don't lose a war if you simply keep fighting it. Eventually the US, and our allies, will grow weary of the loss of life and treasure spent defending the island nation and the Chicoms will be handed a strategic victory, even after being humbled tactically.

The Chicoms blew their best chance when obummer wrecked our military...like at that time when the US did not have a single carrier task force operational at sea. But, now with the clown show in DC, another opportunity looms for the next 3 1/2 years.
