I really want to know what really happened here. Either our intelligence is really crappy or our CIC is even more senile and stupid than I thought (probably both). I mean, come on. The Taliban was able to assemble an army and organize in a way to take the entirety of Afghanistan in 7 friggin days without us expecting it????? That's faster than we blew through Iraq with all of our technical advantages and superior equipment.
Yeah, we should be out of Afghanistan (Syria too....same friggin thing). Delaying the inevitable should not be our military strategy, especially when we are bring home dead and wounded soldiers for the effort. I know too many folks for whom that war will never be over....it's only limited war if you aren't there.
Go all the way, or don't go at all. Fighting defensive wars designed to keep one particular faction from being overthrown or killed is an open-end commitment that will eventually end just like Beirut, Vietnam and now Afghanistan.
When you pull out of Afghanistan, particularly under the terms of Trump’s deal, you can’t control what happens. In fact, Trump’s agreement does not let us interfere in their internal politics.
Why is any deal of Trump's suddenly so important? None of his other policies survived executive orders from the adult who is supposed to be the foreign policy expert. They are clowns.
