Of course, if you aren’t paying much in wages, you get far less bang for your buck with PPP, but that was also the point. And that is also why the big chains mentioned in the original article actually benefitted from COVID at the expense of mom and pop restaurants.
My wife ran a small business that had to shut down. She didn’t have to lay anyone off, thanks to PPP.
I find it impossible to believe that Taco Bell is in financial trouble. Don't care if you like their food, or not, but like McDonald's, Taco Bell is an enormously successful business. Their franchisees do VERY well, more take home net income than McDonald's franchisees make.
Guisslap, if your wife's business had to shutdown, did she still keep her employees? If so, why? Seems to me that her employee's lost their jobs when her business shutdown. I am not a genius like you so please explain this to us simpletons.....

She was able to pay her employees (around 60 people) and rent thanks to the forgivable PPP loan until they were able to reopen. They had zero income for the period they were shut down. That was exactly the point of PPP.
Good thing she had your income to offset the need for her income. Most business owners did not have that luxury so PPP did not completely fill those needs.
I guess it depends if the owner had previously been paying themselves employee wages.
The main benefit for the owner is you don’t lose your workforce and you don’t go into the red (or as deeply into the red) paying opex while you can’t operate at full capacity.
You live in a dream world of big brother taking care of you even in your private business ventures.
It' all about control.
It is a better solution than putting people on unemployment and breaching leases for (what could have been) a temporary health crisis.

Examples? Who threatened teachers by confronting them at their homes or chasing them into a restroom?
