UIW announces they will depart the Southland Conference for the WAC next season.
In 2010, Texas's launch of the Longhorn Network prompted Nebraska to announce it was leaving the Big12, thus setting in motion the previous round of realignment -- a series of events that led to the end of both the Big East and the WAC as football conferences. IIRC, Incarnate Word's move from D2 to FCS was the final domino to fall in that process.
Maybe this announcement from UIW will wrap things up again this time.

SHSU is in an area where the A&M and UT cults are overwhelming. The Baylor and LSU fandom in the area is quit strong too. UofH only has their recent basketball success to tout. Regardless, I think SHSU is a good addition. They have a winning baseball program in the last 10+ years which helps fill the void of losing Rice baseball (Rice BB wasn't what it once was either). SHSU football and basketball are good programs too. I think there is overall more upside with SHSU in the conference than there was with Rice or UNT. UNT has good basketball. UNT football is blah. No baseball at UNT.

I'm watching Liberty's media conference regarding their invitation to CUSA. They are going to kick the crap out of us. LOL

Have you considered those Dogs?
Personally, I think too much is being made of this whole conference thing. It's up to the individual universities to produce a viable product and sell themselves, especially at the G5 level. Anyone that thinks the Sunbelt is on the way up is delusional. They've had a couple of good years and that's it.
Paying fees, or foregoing revenues, to jump from one bottom feeder conference to another is a waste of money IMO. I'd rather pay to replace our coach with one that EXPECTS to win every game and instills the same in our players (much like Liberty has done since starting their program) is the way to go.
Are Southern Miss and Marshall really any better off by being in the Sunbelt?
