The problem is Shreveport sports fans are bandwagon fans. They follow LSU because they want to be associated with winning.
The A&M/Tech game at Independence Field was a great point to engage new fans, BUT it won't work with our current coaching.
Give them something novel again like Air Raid (an offense that was the default of Tech for many years).
The problem with Tech right now is it doesn't have an identity. We used to be anytime, anywhere, upset kings. Or scrappy underdogs.
Now we are vanilla generic boring football, just like we are generic institution.
I know that Guice has brought in consultants and I know many consultants have said the same thing. You have got to establish your identity as a university and not try to be all things to all people.
No proof he knew anything about what went on before he got here or as it was happening, that ship has sailed unless something concrete were to come to light proving Guice knew about. TMac was a shitty hire and that’s on him but hiring a crap AD won’t cause an academic to be fired, and the crap AD basically took the blame and got promoted up for his troubles.
True or not, plausible deniability and layers of insulation. I believe he didn’t know about it before summit got here, afterwards I don’t know. I am not in the know in the athletic department like I once was. Honestly don’t want to be with the shape it’s in now on a lot of levels. Saddest thing is there are some good people in that department that can’t do what’s best for Tech because of the people above them.
Only university presidents can hire/fire, and many positions also require ULS Board approval.
It is true in most cases university presidents defer to the recommendation of a search committee and/or to the department head. But the prez has the final say. I have seen, even in my limited connections to it, prezzes say no to a recommendation and hire who they wanted. And sometimes that works out for the best, sometimes not. Point is the buck stops with the president of the university.
We skipped Saturday and will be out of town Friday. Family time trumps all Tech events at this point.
I hope they don't do crowd shots. There will be no one to look at other than the band and cheerleaders. Hats off to the spirit groups- they have to be happy it is almost over, and they have done a great job. I will be at the Benton playoff game, but wouldn't make the trip otherwise. I don't want to watch them play again this year. I barely even listened Sat., and we have season tickets to go if we wanted. There is just nothing to waste the drive over for. Hopefully this will change before next year, but I doubt it.
High school football playoffs and Tech hoops at NSU all on Friday night. I'm thinking now I will do "none of the above." Not wasting my time watching Tech clank free throw after free throw, and end up losing to the lowly Demons. Although, at 0-2 (Oklahoma and Tulsa), they have looked better than us thus far. Right now they are playing like the better team.
Yes, there will be lots of purple and gold tigers. Benton travels well. God has a sense of humor making me wear those ugly colors to support my child that is a manager on the team. I can't wear anything that says tigers on it- I just go for a purple shirt that says Benton.
