if you're hearing rave reviews of the SEZ, it's because youre LOOOOOOADED. Nobody outside the uppermost upper crust has ever been in there!
Exhibit #842 that an obscenely wealthy N.La. elite call the shots at Tech, and to hell with the peasants.[/QUOT
The students were enticed into voting the "Student facility enhancement fee" upon themselves in order to use that money to pay off the bonds that built the facility. They circulated comments such as the students being able to eat a burger from the facility while watching the games. I wonder if the students would have voted for it if they knew that they would not have access unless purchasing tickets up there.
Facilities are part of the equation to help move up in another conference. The other ingredient is changing the coach, winning, and fan support. Selling Shreveport as part of our market has to happen, as well. I am certainly not against the stadium addition - just wish the other ingredients were included with this.
They have hosted some student events there. Nothing during a game, to my knowledge. I know the casino night “Rus Vegas” or whatever they call it has taken place there.
Engineers were shown their potential sponsors for their senior projects there, but I don’t know if that changed with the new E&D Building opening.
Adding Shreveport to our market has always been key, however we have moved away from that mindset since we haven’t played a game there in forever (2012 I believe). Another failure of the Guice administration. We need to really push to revitalize the fans in Shreveport/Bossier
We had a huge number of posters on this board complain about playing at Independence Stadium back in 2010 with Grambling and in 2012 with Texas A&M. I remember there were lots of complaints about traffic and parking with many never wanting to return to Independence Stadium. I know we tried playing a home game there every year in the early 2000s. Did those games help us in any meaningful way as opposed to playing in the Joe? I only see the use of Independence Stadium is if we can secure a big blue blood P5 program. Otherwise I really think we ought to play in the Joe and work on making the gameday atmosphere and experience better.
Texas A&M and Oklahoma State made sense in Shreveport. One of those types of games each year doesn't seem like a bad idea.
The traffic? If the Shreveport police were in New Orleans handling traffic flow, the jam from Mardi Gras would just about be cleared by Thanksgiving.
Shreveport is an all out awful experience. I can’t think of any part of it that’s worth it as a season ticket holder. But hey, since I’m not buying seasons tickets ever again until... y’all go ahead. The way Holtz loses road games, it’s pretty much a guaranteed defeat.
We need that market if we ever hope to get into another conference. I don’t like the Indy Bowl per se, but we are going to have to do something to capture that market.
I agree... We just have not done it correctly. We need to blitz the Shreveport market when we have a game there. We just have announced it and played - that will not cut it. We need pep rally's downtown, flags everywhere they will let us put them, and the band marching downtown and at the Boardwalk in Bossier. Add game specific billboards, etc.. We have not gone all out on any of this and, since Shreveport is NOT a good sports town, we have to do everything we can. As for parking and traffic jams, that is just part of it. I have gone to most of these games and it was MUCH less trouble than going to an SEC game anywhere. P5 opponent and us with a good winning team. The A&M game is a good example and that worked out well with attendance and I had no problems parking and getting out for a P5 game. We complain a LOT about everything on this board.
Now the BIG question is if we will ever have a winning team that has a shot at beating at P5 again. New coach is needed...
