Well one could argue Holtz has been one of the most successful coaches at Tech. I think it’s time for him to go…but Tech needs to honor the contracts they have signed.
So by your logic, I assume you think firing a coach with a winning record and 7 bowl appearances is bush league.
No firing a coach with a winning record and 7 bowl appearances without paying the buyout as some posters suggest is Busch league.
Success is relevant to expectations. You could say he over achieved based on what we were accustomed to but the bar was MUCH lower under Holtz than it was under his predecessors. Therefore he underachieved based on the weak ass competition he faced. He was weak and cost our program dearly.
Tech needs to move forward… I agree. Holtz provided some stability and was what many fans were asking for when he was hired. A coach that could win and was willing to stay around. Holtz can’t be blamed for the weak ass conference affiliation. I agree we should have won the weak ass conference r championship at least once during his tenure.

What does the contract say? I’ve heard rumors of bonuses for 8+ wins.
It's not like Holtz won a National Championship and then got fired partway through the season less than two years later. That kind of stuff doesn't happen does it?
It does, LSU is paying out way more than 3 million in buyout . O went 15-0 with a national championship and is being let go two years later.

The contract includes financial incentives for various things, but winning 8+ games was not one of them. However, perhaps even worse (or better) depending on how you look at it, the contract would be automatically extended by one year for any season the team won at least 8 games (including postseason games). Go 7 - 5, then win a bowl game - contract would be extended by a year.
The contract called for an automatic extension of one year for every year with at least 8 wins. There was no specified bonus amount for 8+ wins.
