Didn’t they say that it has “all the classic earmarks of a Russian information operation” and that they “do not have evidence of Russian involvement” and that “experience makes us deeply suspicious that the Russian government played a significant role in this case”?
After what the Russians did in 2016 and the shady cast of characters involved with the publication of the stuff in the NYP, their suspicion was certainly warranted.
Where the credibility is in question and the actual significance/materiality of the information is also mostly irrelevant, I can see why new outlets that value their reputation would not run the pointless story.
