You ignore why the infield fly rule was instituted in the first place. And that it has been in place in its current form for over 100 years. It is necessary and was instituted to eliminate issues making a travesty of the game already discussed off-topic in this thread. A more complete historical discussion is linked below.

Just well-documented proof that the rule is arbitrary. "Baseball" decided to enhance the scoring chances and made this rule to protect the offense. Fine, if you think it is a good rule because you like higher scoring games, but stop the silliness of saying it is not an arbitrary rule. The rule is situational, not arbitrary, because it closed the previous loophole in the rules that would otherwise allow the defense to record multiple outs at no fault by the offense when at most one out should be recorded.

You can go several games and never see it in play. The rule works. Live with it.
