To me unfortunately it’s becoming his trademark like Holtz’s was never playing aggressively to win outright. Tech doesn’t have talent or even potential to waste and we can include Lyddy in that.

Never playing aggressively to win outright?? Going for two in first OT, going for 1st on 4th down rather than punting many times doesn’t sound like never. Give Cumbie some credit. Let’s see what talent he’s able to bring in and have one year of head coaching experience under his belt. There are coaches paid much more with more experience that make more mistakes. As with any team it doesn’t help when injuries occur and there isn’t a deep experienced bench of back ups. He’s going to be good.

What is it with you guys who can’t read or comprehend what you’re reading? I didn’t say anything about Cumbie not being aggressive in his efforts. I simply said he’d had blunders in his coaching decisions. “Blunders” being his trademark, not a lack of aggressiveness.

Great point. I would certainly think Sonny has talked to Landry about his wishes. Not sure about his Dad. I guess it depends on the relationship he has with his Dad. As a coach I am sure it is always better if decisions aren't family decisions. Of course, we know that is often not the case.

IMO the only time family should be involved in a playing decision is in cases like this one where a redshirt is involved or deciding how to proceed after a serious injury.

Still comes back to how healthy McNeil is going into Saturday and if he can stay that way.

I have heard from a couple of sources that Lyddy is committed to a fault. Wants to make his mark at Tech. Now, these sources are close to the family, but could still be wrong. If coach is getting the same message, I wouldn’t let him take another snap.

    No, it really doesn’t…

Evidently some of you guys have been conditioned by the MSM “fake news” to not pay attention to the whole story or the truth of the story. Like where they lead you you don’t read deep enough to understand, so I’ll spell it out for you… My point was Blunders as illustrated by someone else’s comment. “It’s” has to speak to what was already said, namely The Blunders, not something that is to be said afterwards. Maybe this is too complicated. It is English after all .

Let's hope that is true and he has a great four or five-year career here.

I agree. I'm amazed at how many of our fans are worried about 2026........the extra year Lyddy would supposedly get from the red shirt. We'll probably recruit 7 or 8 other QB's between now and 2026.

Also, as I've said before, redshirting is much more effective at schools that have long serving coaches that have a specific system they recruit for. The major advantage being, the QB recruit gets to stay in the same offensive system for 5 years. That model just does NOT fit LA Tech's profile. Our coaches come and go. It's very unlikely that Sonny Cumbie will be at LA Tech for 5 years, especially if he is successful. The only reason Skip Holtz was here for 9 yrs was because he was a bad coach, and no other school wanted him. That's why Holtz doesn't have a college coaching job today.

Come on DB. Bone_afied was using Holtz's example as a metaphor. Holtz's "lack of aggression" is analogous or reminiscent to some of Cumbies shortcomings, though his may be different. Got it?

Not fake news here. I’m not afraid to admit I’m wrong when I am (don’t like having to), but I did misread what you wrote (my apologies). I just didn’t like Cumbie already being compared to Skippy because of how much I disliked Skippy as our coach and I didn’t read it clearly. Still think Cumbie should be given a little more slack at this time. Getting a little head coaching experience under his belt I hope he’s much improved next year as he’s able to get more of his players on roster. Go Dawgs

Re: McNeil is back this week

We're starting just 4 seniors out of the starting 22. That is third fewest in all of FBS. Obviously, we have a young team with a coaching staff that is currently clueless but hopefully learning its way. We have also suffered some key losses to injuries which with a shallow roster in talent, we could not afford.

My biggest concern is the mental errors we are still making 9 games into the season. Even true freshmen have had enough time to adjust to the speed of college football and to master self-discipline to be where they are supposed to be, every play! and to not make boneheaded mistakes. That is on the coaches as much as it is on the players themselves.

Finally, even Crumby's harshest critics have to expect much better results next season.

    Go Dawgs! beat the 'runners!

I’m on your team pulling for Cumbie. I absolutely hope he’s successful because I want Tech to be the best.

I understood what he was trying to say but maybe there should have been a comma before like so that it expressed two thoughts? Just asking as a complete idiot in my old age.

Re: McNeil is back this week

Obviously from yesterday's game McNeil gives Tech the best chance to win now, and that's why Cumbie is playing him. But the fact that McNeil has been limited in practice the last couple of weeks was evident during several stretches of yesterday's game.

One more McNeil injury and this whole discussion will be moot. The SFA garbage time for Lyddy looms even larger now.
