I admit it. I'm surprised that Cumby has turned out to be such a bad head coach. He's awful. He doesn't even have them doing the simple things right (like no false starts in Week 11 of the season, the 10th game.) We can't tackle on Defense --which pardon me-- should be a requirement. And we're VERY SMALL everywhere. How did that happen? I have never seen a group of men so small posing as football players. I remember when college football players used to be big, and bad ass people. Like UTSA yesterday. Our guys looked like a bunch of 8th graders playing against grown men.
This team is playing no better now than they were in game one. There has not been any improvement derived from practice or games. This glaring fact can be placed at the feet of the head coach. I know that many of you hate LSU, but when Brian Kelly walked onto the LSU campus the roster consisted of a total of 39 scholarship players. What a turnaround. Now they have won a trip to the SEC football championship. Kelly also has already achieved the fourth best recruiting class for 2023. Skip left the Tech roster bare, but with skillful transfer portal management, that is not near the challenge that it was prior to the portal. It appears that Tech must have lost more to the portal than was gained. Tech and the Saints have something in common this season--both are very bad football teams.
Brian Kelly is a good coach, a very good coach (won't use the term "great"). At Notre Dame he had a recruiting edge, true, but ND has standards and he had to settle for true STUDENT-athletes. At LSU he can recruit at Angola State Penn! He'll be able to dress all kinds of "athletes" and fill his roster with NFL talent. Doesn't matter if they perform in the classroom or not.
As for our very own Coach Crummy...well, we made a mistake. Even if this clown turns out to be a decent coach someday (hmmm...) we didn't need to be his learning curve experiment. Tech Football was reeling and needed an immediate boost. Instead, we have a guy who is absolutely clueless with a barely qualified coaching staff who would be better served learning the game as an assistant high school coach somewhere.
BTW, since Tech Football hit its recent high-water mark, the Indy Bowl win over Miami, we are 11-22 (did that in my head, may be a little off). We need a boost!
Just curious Dawg80 how tall are you?
I fear we are becoming the training ground for coaches. Not a launching pad for good coaches. 2 losing seasons, 2 winning seasons, and our coaches will leave for other mid level HC jobs in better markets with better pay and better pay for assistants.
I agree that Guice, McClelland, and Holtz have done nothing to lift our football program up...Les is a non-athletic administrator, TommyBoy was an incompetent boot licker, and Skippy just ran the string as long as he could!
When Sonny Cumbie got here all agreed that HCSH's cupboard was bare with a bunch of undisciplined players on the roster. Some good to better players sprinkled in amongst those that probably should have been given "an apple and a roadmap" to quote Coach Mize. Sonny didn't have much to work with IMHO.
Sonny is still learning to be a HC. I don't think he's an asshole like Dooley or a sponge like Dykes...what I've seen of him he appears to be a little softer than I expected. I don't, however, doubt his football smarts or ability.
I'm willing to let him get a recruiting class or two under his belt and in his system (whatever that is) before I want his head on a pike!
I'm an asshole! What's your excuse?
