Hooray! ultra RINO Mitt Romney retiring! Hopefully Utah will elect a conservative senator, but I'll settle for a more moderate one. By "moderate" I don't mean another RINO.

Moderate = RINO who claims to be a centrist. They are both liberal. People like McCain, Romney, and our own Senator Cassidy are the problem.

I can't remember who pointed it out, but they made the observation that the current elected Republicans are NOT RINOs. They are what a Republican IS. YOU (a normal person) are the RINO.

For all practical purposes, it is illegal to hold normal views as a public official in America.

Most people either can’t see or simply won’t acknowledge that the left dove left, the right and middle have drifted left or dove left. The rest of us never moved.

    Re: The GOP

So the big mouth Matt Gaetz is calling for a resolution to oust McCarthy as Speaker...then what? The Dems will line up behind one Dem, probably Jared Golden of Maine, a moderate who could get some Republican votes for Speaker. And then the Dems, with a minority, will again control the agenda in both houses. Great job there Gaetz! I hope Florida voters send this clown packing.

Gaetz is too chicken-shit to seek the Speakership himself because he knows he'll get slaughtered in the vote. So, instead he stands on the sidelines and cast stones at McCarthy.

I am officially registered as No Party. I was a registered a (D) when I first registered at 18, but have never, not ever! voted for a Dem in any statewide or national election. The Repubs couldn't organize a bar-b-que and Gaetz would keep dousing the fire in the grill with a garden hose, anyway. What a loser!

McCarthy and the rest of the Trump hating RINOs are the losers. They just keep giving in to the other side. They are as corrupt as the demoncrates.

    Re: The GOP

Patrick McHenry, appointed as temporary Speaker, has ordered Pelosi to vacate the Speaker's suite of offices. Pelosi, stalling, said she has to attend a funeral in California, for Feinstein, and will deal with it when she gets back. Well, McHenry could have all her stuff moved out into the hallway. Which begs the question as to why McCarthy didn't want to occupy the Speaker's office.

McCarthy? McHenry? guess McDonald's is next, we can have Ronald McDonald as Speaker since Congress has turned into a circus.

The Right has long since lost the narrative. The Left, all about politics and the nation be damned, has run roughshod over Conservatism. This is why McCarthy and others really have little choice but to seek compromise with the Dems, while the Dems have no concerns as they control the media and "the narrative." Anything remotely considered conservative, like a balanced budget, is demonized and about 51% of the voting populace agrees. That number will grow to 52% and then 53% and soon, maybe already, no conservative will ever win a national election again.

    Re: The GOP

As has been said before, the GOP couldn't organize a bar-b-cue.

Fellow Rummel grad Steve Scalise has removed himself for consideration for Speaker. He is battling cancer so perhaps he didn't need the added stress of being Speaker anyway. Still, the GOP continues to be a laughingstock, which is why I identify as being CONSERVATIVE and not a member of the Republican Party. The Dems know how to play politics...in fact, that, and destroying America...is the only thing they excel at. The Dems march in lockstep, that's goosestepping like the NAZIs.

The goofy GOP...the "G" needs to stand for Goofy as in the Goofy Ole Party...will fool around and lose control of the House in the 2024 elections. Then assholes like Matt Gaetz and his small circle of disrupters can be happy with absolutely no power as the Dems, even with a small majority, will completely dominate the agenda and put the final nail in America's coffin.

There is some buzz about moderate Republicans joining with the Dems to vote to give Patrick McHenry more authority to get the House working again. McHenry is in tune with McCarthy so given such power, he might agree to get issues on the House floor, and I know the assholes like Gaetz won't like the nature of the bills. The Dems have the Senate and the WH so all it would take is a narrow margin in the House and Bam! new, stupid laws passed.

What is the point of appointing a temporary Speaker if he/she doesn't have the authority to conduct the House's business? McHenry did do one good thing, kicking Pelosi and her scumbag staff out of the Speaker's Suite of Offices. Kudos for that.

At this point it doesn't matter if Dems gain small majority in House in 24.. Republicans do not know how to lead or govern when they have the majority. They simply don't. They prefer to go along to get along and continue to get invited to cocktail parties and dinners in DC all the while increasing their personal wealth. Then when pressed by their constituents, they claim that they don't have any power and there is nothing they can do...

Lately I have more sympathy for this though. Going to cocktail parties and increasing personal wealth is the only legal option for a conservative. Any man actually governing as a conservative can be certain of legal action against him and his own party to disavow him with whatever derisive term is the current bludgeon.

Lots of truth here. The Left is organized to attack Conservatives and can mobilize their operatives quickly.

Rep. Mike Johnson (R) of Louisiana has announced he will seek the House Speakership should Ohio's Jim Jordan fail to garner enough votes. Doesn't matter who throws his/her hat into that ring (which is a 3-ring circus) half the GOP caucus will be against them. The Dems in the House are seeking enough moderate Repubs to work with to grant temporary Speaker Patrick McHenry the authority to conduct the House's business.

I think the GOP is DOA in the 2024 elections, probably for the WH too. Thanks to Matt Gaetz and his small band of morons America is disgusted with the Republicans. Of course, the Dem voters would never vote for an (R) in a nationwide election and now the state races, since they affect the nation, are up for grabs too. Moderate Republicans, like white suburban moms, will either not vote for the (R) candidate thus handing the tight races to the (D) or maybe even vote for some of the Dems, since some Dems portray themselves as decent people with "conservative" values, never mind that once they reach DC they cannot vote any "conservative" values they might personally hold. That point is always lost on the goofballs who are mad at some (R) and vote for the (D).

Spoke with one of Congressman Mike Johnson's community liaisons last night. They are excited about the prospects of him becoming Speaker. They are rightfully excited, because it would be a great thing for Johnson and for them. But, it ain't gonna happen. The GOP is too stupid to properly take care of business, and a relatively unknown nationally, like Mike Johnson, has less of a chance then Steve Scalise or Jim Jordan. Maybe enough ding-a-lings, 217, will tire of the stupidity and elect Jim Jordan as Speaker.

I've thought about this a lot. If the reasons for those who didn't support Jordan yesterday is a "gotcha" thing they are worse than a RINO. I know at least a couple are against him because they are not really conservative, but I also know several are not supporting him because they got their feelings hurt over either McCarthy or Scalise.
