Round 2 is today, at least I hope so. I think Scalise is the best choice for Speaker. No, not because he is a fellow Rummel grad, but because as Majority Whip he has been carrying out the duties of trying to herd the GOP caucus (like trying to herd cats) and get bills to the House floor for votes. And Jordan has his hands full as Chairman of the Judiciary Committee, and important work to be done there. Doesn't matter what I, or most pragmatic people think, the GOP is its own worse enemy and will again fumble at the goal line. There are some absolutes in this world you can count on: the sun will rise in the east, and the Goofy Old Party will eff things up!

Watching this play out time and time again reminds me of Charlie Brown trying to kick the football.

Jesse Waters said this yesterday. Has anyone noticed any difference with the House not having a Speaker? Honestly I don’t see a difference as Congress in general doesn’t get much work done.

    Re: The GOP

Mike Johnson's candidacy for Speaker is DOA. Already 40 Republicans who say they won't vote for him. But, Mike is a cousin of mine, by marriage, and an overall good fellow. He is having his moment in the limelight, just enjoy it and then move on. He has a lot going for him otherwise.

Made the mistake of reading some of the comments about Johnson on the Yahoo message board; bunch of POS evil democrap types. They are so lost, so hopeless...pathetic.

As for the stupid GOP, they are committing political suicide with this mess. No way they hold the House after the 2024 elections. I hope that POS Matt Gaetz gets voted out, preferably by a true Conservative/pragmatic candidate but anyone will do at this point.

In the big picture, I think we are seeing the destruction of the two-party system, which is good. The democraps are so f***ing evil and anti-American that their support is waning and will continue to. And the GOP is just plain stupid, so voters will not look to that bunch. Third Party candidates will slowly start enjoying more and more success in state and national elections. Already see this at the local level and it will eventually transfer into major elections. Personally, I am registered as "No Party" as are a growing number of folks. BTW, registering as an "independent" is not the same thing, as I learned. Has to be "No Party."

Johnson just got elected Speaker of House..

ETA: I applaud Gaetz for holding McCarthy accountable. McCarthy did not do the things he promised he would do in order to get elected Speaker. When he was pressed by Gaetz, McCarthy told him to go pound sound. Gaetz did just that.

First Speaker of House from Louisiana!!

My...OUR...aunt Facebook messaged me all excited that Mike is Speaker. Aunt Francene is contacting everyone she knows (and that is a lot of folks!). She resides in Texarkana but is proud of her Louisiana roots. Especially today!

Steve Scalise (a Rummel grad ) is House Majority Leader, so two Pelican staters in charge in the House.

    Re: The GOP

Karl Rove just asked a $million question...will the loon Matt Gaetz give Johnson time to build a coalition, including winning concessions from the Dems, or go all ballistic on him and lead a revolt ousting Johnson too? Might be the shortest speakership in history.

The fact that Bill Kristol has expressed "concern" about the election of Johnson as SOH is all of the confirmation I need that Johnson was a good choice.

Yep, if Kristol and Rove don’t like him, that’s a solid endorsement as far as I’m concerned.

Rove didn't say he doesn't like Johnson or he's a bad choice, he wondered aloud if Johnson tries to get something done, which HAS TO INCLUDE some kind of negotiations/agreement with the Dems if Gaetz will pull the stunt he did with McCarthy.

Just in case the GOP hardliners, and their supporters shouting from the rafters, have forgotten, the GOP has a very small margin in the House, and the Dems hold both the Senate and the WH. Yeah, I would love an agenda of conservative measures, but those bills are DOA in the Dem-controlled Senate and/or on Sleepy Joe's desk. The GOP has no choice but to seek compromises and try to get something done for America and Americans. Rove simply asked, will Matt Gaetz go ballistic again?

Rove is a dunce. I stopped paying attention to him after the Romney-Obama election.
