My son is on track to receive TOPS Honors and one of the Tech Merit Based Scholarships (anywhere from $3500-9500/year based on ACT). We will still need to pay $10-15,000/year with both of those.

Current expected cost for Tech is ~$21,600/year: Tuition & Fees $12,165, Room & Board: $9500
TOPS covers $5553/year for Tech; Honors an additional $800/y; Performance $400/y.

So out of pocket Tuition with TOPS Honors is ~ $5800.

We just wrapped up child #5's graduation from Tech. Most of ours were able to find additional help with tuition. A couple even got extra money to help with housing. No, none of them were merit scholars. The balance? Student loans. Some of ours owed more than others, but none complained about the total cost of the Tech sheepskin.

Yes, I received TOPS as an undergraduate. I was a cheap ass in my younger days—not sure much has changed. But tuition at Tech is also not $789/qtr. for 12 hours like it was in the late 90s.

Maybe all of those athletic fees that passed all those times were what propped our program up all along. 

LOL! It took Jack Bicknell 8 years to rack up two (2) 3-loss seasons like Sonny Cumbie has done in only 2 years. THAT'S how bad Cumbie is.

Exactly. Not trying to be a smarty pants, but LA Tech's tuition rates are already absurdly inexpensive. Throw in Tops Scholarships on top of that, and Louisiana Tech students are getting a HELL of a great deal.

My son has Tops Honors and $8000/yr merit scholarships. We pay right around $2000/quarter. He lives in cheaper dorm housing and has the middle meal plan. A real bargain IMO

I have a feeling Ben was feeling sorry for the team and maybe even in a sense for Cumbie since it’s essentially a hopeless case at this point after losing to SHS. You know like there’s no point spurring a dead horse. Cumbie has to have lost the team for the year and probably really the whole program. I can’t imagine many if any of the players having any remaining confidence in him. This off season with the revolving door transfer portal is going to be very interesting. I’ll be greatly surprised if any players with even a glimmer of any athletic ability are at Tech for next season and to go one further what player with any legitimate ability would want to come to Tech to play for Cumbie after what he’s put on the field.

He is already losing "commitments". I really hate the loose usage of that word, but it's the world we live in. They even made up a new word to go with it..."decommit".
