Because our incompetence got us to this place and now we are stuck.

    The Sunbelt won.

Re: Here come the Hens, who's next?

You know, I fired off an email yesterday (without expecting a response) to Dr. Woods about this. But the more I think about it, there really isn't anything he can say. I'm sure that we'll release something once this is official, or maybe the BTB guys or Matt Belinson (is it just me, or is he one of the better beat guys we've had in a while?) will corner him for a statement. But it will just be some generic anodyne statement like

we welcome Delaware to the conference, they've had a lot of success at the FCS level and are a fine academic school and we look forward to having them join us and all these other wonderful schools that we love to associate with and something something the future is bright and there are no limits on (C) us (A) and the other things that the consultants with no skin in the game wrote down for each school to release.
And it will drive me crazy because most of it won't be true and certainly won't reflect what any fans think. But then I thought about what part of me would like him to say more honestly and I think we don't want that either. You can't say (out loud) as an AD anything close to "look, yeah this sucks but Ruston is too small for the AAC and the SB doesn't need or want another school so we're stuck here and Liberty has a budget higher than any 4 of the rest of us so they call the shots and we got out-voted here, we're doing everything we can to get out there just isn't anywhere to go right now but sooner or later the whole G5 will get kicked to the curb and maybe that will spark some kind of big realignment where things work out better." We've seen how it's important for our ADs to not be too candid about other teams. So he can't do that either. And I don't really want him to.

    Tough spot to be in.

Yeah you don’t want him to be honest to the camera.

I still see that clip of Tommy talking about the Sunbelt get shared around. Was it true at the time? Yeah… but the clip lives forever.

    Why add schools? Insurance...

Everyone knows any school in CUSA will jump ship ASAP. Liberty ain't staying in CUSA and they will be gone at the first opportunity. WKU and MTSU will also jump, this time both to the MAC, which thankfully for us, MTSU dropped the ball on recently. UTEP and NMSU will gladly join the MWC or some semblance of a western-based conference if a chance appears. So! for Judy and her minions it's job security to try to assure the continued existence of CUSA. Get to 12 schools so if 3 or 4 leave, you still have a viable conference. If a league like the PAC 12 can vanish in a flash, CUSA certainly can.

I think the ship sailed on MTSU/WKU to the MAC. If CUSA loses a team or two, that might be a good thing for us (even if we're not the ones getting out). Who would we miss if they left? I mean, Liberty's money and the (likely) on-field performance that comes with it. I guess the big city schools help our media deal. SHSU is the only school anywhere nearby. But any one or two schools? Meh. Godspeed and good luck and thanks for the exit fees. And if it was enough more that we'd below the 8 teams you need to have a conference? Fine, bring someone else in at that time. Why do it any earlier than you have to?

Oh well! I remember too well that cold, rainy, dreary day at Aillet, 1982, second round of the IAA playoffs...Delaware 17 Tech 0. Several fans thought we were playing Michigan at first. We dropped an easy TD pass in the 1st qtr. Would it have made a difference? Sure...we would have lost 17-7 instead.

UMass is a founding member of the Atlantic 10 Conference, but it may soon be time to reconsider. Other schools that have been in the mix with CUSA at some point include Tarleton State, Missouri State, Stephen F. Austin and Central Arkansas.

"Hey, I know you don't like brussells sprouts but that's all there is, and it's better than having nothing. Here are eight of them."

"Ok, like you said it's better than nothing, what choice do I have?"

"Wait, here are three more, that will help!"

More of something you don't want isn't better than less of something you don't want.

I was there. It was miserable, and the outcome of the game made it worse.

I was there and was there the week before for the equally miserable weather...although the outcome was much better.
