Washington 14-0 vs. Michigan 14-0
After all the fussing about who should be in the CFP, I think these two teams have earned the right to play for all the marbles.
Should be a fun game to watch. This is the first year that the semis were good games. Worst overall bowl season in recent memory. At least IMHO. Maybe this last game can redeem the post season to some degree.
I hope the game is as close and entertaining as the semis were. I feel the need to make a prediction, so: Washington 24 Michigan 20. Michigan plays good defense, better than UW, and defense wins championships, so maybe I should select UM. But, there is something else that wins championships and that is a championship-caliber QB who can make plays and offset a good defense, and that QB is Penix.
I’m thinking close as well. 30-23 UW. And they score the go ahead TD with 5 minutes to go and their defense holds in the end.
I’m sure I’ll be wrong.
The old adage proved correct again...defense wins championships. Michigan's defense absolutely bludgeoned Penix and Washington. Hail to the victors! Michigan proved to be the better team last night. And, I will say their national championship was as earned as any and more so than most past NCAA Division I football champions.
Next year will be the 12-team version of the DI playoffs. So, that should be interesting.
If I'm the Saints - I draft the best Michigan offensive lineman available with the first pick -
They put on a clinic from Nov 1 on...
''Don't be a bad dagh..."
They definitely had Penix off his game. He was missing throws he usually hits. I give Michigan’s D full credit. Curiously, the ACC refs refused to call offensive holding against Michigan even though replays clearly showed holding on multiple occasions, especially on one big play in Q4. This was right after they called holding on Washington on their longest completion of the night. That was a critical sequence down the stretch.
But Washington was not going to catch up. Their offense was squashed by the Michigan D.
Michigan definitely deserved it. If Washington plays the same ball in the BIG, they will probably lose 2-3 games every year.
I noted that too. Those two "decisions" by the zebras were huge, game-changers. Those two plays plus the unlucky INT to start the 2nd half were momentum changers for sure. The INT was just bad luck, but when the refs interpose themselves into the game with decisions that alter the flow of the game, that is just wrong. Yeah, there are missed calls that hurt both teams, and you hope they even up by the end of the game. But whoa! those two plays were HUGE and both went against UW. That said, I agree, UM was going to win the game as they are just better.
Of course it could argued every which way, but in my opinion the final top 4 would be #1 Michigan, #2 Alabama, #3 Georgia & #4 Washington.
Just announced. Nick Saban is retiring. That means there’s an opening for someone?? Not naming any names. LOL
