He let it hit the ground and as planned it caused the runners to freak out. Had they just stayed on the bag there would have been only two outs with a runner on 1st and 2nd.

If it were a dead ball the runners would never take the few steps off the bag they normally and should take giving them enough time to return before being tagged. They MUST be tagged.

The only potential controversy to this century old rule is the umpires doing their job correctly by making the call when it should be made. It's as much a part of the game as anything in baseball.

FWIW, I also hate the new clock rule, but TV rules everything now. Three hour (or less) games are convenient, but not part of the real game of baseball.

As for Tech baseball, well, we need a new pitching staff, sans Bates.
To me, I guess it makes sense to be one of 2 things. 1. A dead ball out and no one can advance. 2. A live ball to be played like any other play on the field. The ultimate punishment for a team that can’t help but hit pop flies on the infield would be a most embarrassing double play. Why should a defense suffer for making the play in front of them the best way they can to get back in the dugout?

The pitch clock isn’t bothering me nearly like I thought it would. A pitcher doesn’t need 90 seconds to throw. A batter doesn’t need a full minute to get the sign and adjust his crotch.

Great sweep this weekend for the Dawgs even if it wasn’t a particularly tough team. NSU is the kind of team Tech should never lose to. Next up top tier LSU and then Nichols St. I think we can take them both if we play like we’re capable.

lsu coming off a run rule loss. It could be ugly, but it won't be a bit uglier than last Tuesday was in Natchitoches.

I agree, but they only changed it for TV's sake, not our's.

Even with a sweep and a 16-5 record Tech’s RPI dropped from 108 to 115. The more we win the worse we get. Maybe after this season Burroughs will see that playing all these weak teams is really bad for the business of being seen nationally and having any hope of making the NCAAs without having to win the conference tournament. Yeah it’s cheaper and easier to play Louisiana teams but that’s not where the most important value is. Hopefully the Dawgs will beat LSU and they’ll turn this nosedive around.

You do realize outside of Northern Colorado (0-19) - the OOC slate hasn't been too bad rpi wise

    Kent State - 175 (improving) 3W's
    Army - 208 W
    Creighton - 57 W
    Air Force - 81 W
    Xavier - 34 WL
    Souther Miss - 44 LLW
NWSt - 199 (didn't need 5 games against them) LWWWW but I think it was more of a conference scheduling issue - have to take the good with the bad (got Arizona to balance it out)
    USL -73 L

    Still to play -

    LSU - 29
    Nicholls State (2x) - 103
    ULM (3x) - 153
    UALR - 94
    Zona - (3x) - 98

Compare those rpi's (116 rpi) against the conference schedule that's not SHS or DBU which drops our SOS rpi to 218...
    ''Don't be a bad dagh..."

It looks to me like Tech is in serious trouble, meaning versus better ranked competition the Dawgs aren’t going to gain many points and yet any bad loss to a lesser ranked team is going to count doubly hard against them. As for the conference games there are only two teams ranked higher than Tech so not sweeping every series Tech is favored in is going to be a washout point wise. It’s already looking like we’re trying to claw our way out of a cellar spot and anything less than a conference championship isn’t going to be enough. If I’m not mistaken a wildcard team has to be around 50 RPI to have a chance and then you better hope some SEC, ACC… team is less than .500 or they’ll go in ahead of you based on favoritism.

We were in the top 50 with 39 wins in 2018 and didn't get in. In 2017 we were in the 50s with 36 wins and didn't get in. We probably would not have gotten in in 2022 had we not won the tournament. I'd like to think we will win 40 this year, but I don't think that will be enough. At this point in LB's career at Tech getting in should be a given. Our goal (LB has stated) is to get to a Super Regional. Hard to do that if we don't make a regional.

Actually - you have to be in the mid to low 30's to have a reasonable shot at an at large...

Needed that one additional win against Xavier, 2/3 for USM and a sweep of NWSt

Odds are we won't beat LSU

We will be lucky to beat Nicholls either time (need the sweep)

Probably lose 2/3 against ULM (need the sweep)

May get swept in Tucson (need 2/3)

To over come how bad CUSA is in baseball - where you have only 3 series to build RPI points

LSU has scheduled a practice just hours before the game tonight. When asked their coach said he has bigger concerns than a single midweek game with series against three Top 10 ranked opponents coming up vs. Ark, Vandy, and Tenn. What he did not say, and didn't have to, is his team is playing an opponent coached by LB tonight...

A win tonight, albeit against an opponent seemingly not concerned about it, would be a very nice boost for the Diamond Dawgs.

Keep the lineup the same as it was on Sunday. Put a guy out there to throw strikes and trust the defense to make a play. Get out of the way. That’s all Burroughs should do the rest of his time here.

Can we score 21? With our pitching, it might take that to win.
