I'm not saying it wasn't a bad loss. But it was a (bad) loss to Southern. The SWAC is the worst Div 1 conference, but Southern is not the worst Div 1 team. Things can be just as bad as they are.
We lost to a team in the worst conference, but we've beat several teams in the 9th best conference. But we didn't play the conference (well, we'll play ours).
For what it's worth I have the same issue the other direction. Waaaaaaaay back when TCU was in the MWC they had a stat they bragged about of something like "most P5 wins by G5 team" (expect it would have been "BCS" and "non-BCS" back then). But if you looked at it, it was full of Kansas and Iowa State wins (before they were good).
I get it, and I'll sure brag about Tech having "an SEC win" the next time we beat MSU. But conferences don't play, teams play.
