Yeah I've been disappointed that our down and distance isn't showing up consistently.
Regarding ESPN+, I imagine they give all the schools the same graphic package to implement into their production. If you watch any ESPN+ games, their score bug, transitions, etc are pretty standard. We just need the staff to execute these things.
My issues I saw.
- Color/Exposure settings on all camera outputs are all over the place. The midfield cam looks way different then the endzones and field cams. They need to calibrate it and make sure they all look the same.
- Endzone cam output was atrocious. The exposure levels and color saturation was too high.
- Audio - the SLU broadcast was good on audio. The NMSU game, every audio source sounded like they were clipping and distorted. This needs fixing prior to the game making sure the levels are good.
It’s on the production crew to get the audio right. Levels should be adjusted whether she’s yelling or speaking quietly.
At a live concert, audio engineers constantly work the mixing board to keep things sounding good, the performers don’t hear the final output. Someone on the team should be monitoring with headphones to make sure it’s balanced.
I film on the side, and if my talent talks loud and spikes the levels, I just lower the gain. I can increase the volume in post-production if I need to.
