alta, there is used field turf still sitting in a warehouse ( i guess) because our administration said two years ago we didn't have the money to install it. I think it has been assessed recently and deemed unusable now. We got brand new stuff this year when someone donated the money to buy and install it.

Hello! Who said athletics is the window to the university? DR is clueless.
Yep, let's see now, how many times have we been on national tv for our nano program? ZERO!

Just like womens BB once nano catches on schools with a lot more money and prestige will be involved and we will be left in the dust.

Unfortunately, the things that are considered a "huge improvement" at Tech are merely maintainance items elsewhere.

The impassioned plea of Coach Slaughter I hope becomes the "shot heard 'round Tech".

It worries me that the men of that era that know and understand what it takes to move this program forward are not being recognized and appreciated for their insight by the very people that are running (ruining) our program.

It almost seems that LA Tech, the institution that these men have spent a lifetime around have been seemingly cast off as has beens. Unappreciated and unrecognized for their contributions.

It's these men that need to be included in the effort to lead Tech back to the top. Yet they aren't allowed or they're made to feel like they're not needed or wanted by THEIR university. Shameful and stupid!! LA Tech University should welcome these men and their ideas and their desire to see Tech take its rightful place among the elite of college athletics.

Unfortunately. Coach Slaughter may be one of the few from that era that understand. And even fewer in Lincoln Parish.

It's already happening. Ga Tech got a gift last year of $40 mil to jumpstart their nanotechnology program.

Question - What does Tech's athletic budget need to be to get us where we need to go?

Re: For the fans that have been around a looong time.

This season has caused me to become resolute in my feelings toward the administration and the athletic program management. I see what is happening as a betrayal of the university as a whole.

That Dr Reneau excels as the academic leader of the university is a fact. I now see his management of the athletic program as an equal failure. Certainly I prefer my school to progress first as an academic instituition, but I will not accept that the Louisiana Tech can only excel academically to the exclusion of athletics. It is embarrasing and it is unacceptable. I know that through the university, athletics gets the budget dollars it can legally receive. But there are other avenues that could be pursued and it's not happening. I will give more academically and athletically if I see a plan that makes sense and has real scope. But not another dime until I see something of substance.

Jim Oakes job performance has reached the level of unacceptable. I am sure he loves the university. He is simply not getting the job done. Whether he has lost the passion, become bored, or whatever, I do not care. The job he does is below the threshold of where I feel he is performing competently. I can accept that we must play money games to survive. I do not accept the "pimping" of my university. The Nebraska game should not have happened. The Baylor series should have happened.

I went to Tech because of a perceived "Can Do" attitude. I saw Tech as an oasis of academic excellance in a desert of Louisiana second rate community colleges masquerading as universities. With a brother and sister at LSU, I knew what to expect there and I wanted more and I wanted better. I got it at Louisiana Tech. The athletics program mirrored that excellance and I became spoiled to the success of Maxie Lambright and a national championship when I was a freshman. What is happening now is unacceptable.

We "Can Do" better. We must do better. We are Louisiana Tech and we don't put up with situations like the one we have now.

    Fix the problem, Dr Reneau!

    BILL GATES!

What we need is a PLAN! More than anything a PLAN would increase the opperating budget by exciting the fan base. An excited fan base puts butts in the seats and money in the coffers. An excited fan base will pay more for tickets and merchandise. An excited fan base will give more and to more PLANS. But first you need a PLAN and you have to "sale" it.
An influx of "X" amount of money will not "get us where we need to go" without a plan of how to use that money correctly. And even the "big money guys" know that. That is why they say "I will give you this money but it is only to be used for BLANK project."

Again, thank you to those that give so generously to Louisiana Tech.

We have a plan, several actually. There is the "plan" that they put out after being nagged by boosters (many on this board). It has not been implemented. We also have the WAC strategic plan that our president helped to develop (and by endorsing it he did help to develop it). It has become clear from recent public comments by various officials that the current administration has no intention of adhering to this plan either.

What we need is COMMITMENT to either or both of the existing plans. If we would simply work toward meeting the benchmarks of the WAC plan that would be a tremendous leap forward. This isn't neurosurgery. JO is doing all of the job he is held accountable for. Make him accountable for meeting the benchmarks of the current WAC plan and I imagine we'll see progress like we haven't seen in years.

    I'm not a long-timer, but I did respond.

I think anything in the public forums is fair game, and there are a few morsels that NEED to be rebroadcast in a more mainstream outlet.

With that said, what is said in recruiting needs to stay in recruiting (and this is not recruiting).

Yeah, I've always wondered where the WorldWideWeb fits into our libel laws when unsubstantiated rumors are published.
