Isn't the ad's job scheduling? I can't see Dooley doing much of that for any sport other than football.

If I'm not mistaken, I think the other coaches did their scheduling but with limitations attached.

Most of the coaches do their own scheduling with final approval from the AD. Sometimes scheduling is initiated through the AD's if there is a specific contact that the AD may have made at different conferences or meetings.

We needed a long-term solution? Can you elaborate on what you mean? Long-term as in someone who will be here 20 years? I think our long term goals can and will be reached through sequential moves toward the goal and I see no reason why a continuous AD is needed to do that. I think that Dooley will give this program a shot in the arm and that we will be much closer to our goal when he moves on than we are today.

Anyway, I've been trying to hold it in because I don't want to sound negative, and I think most know I've been against this, but I really don't think Dooley is concerned with the entire athletic department as he is football. I'm not saying the others won't get attention. Just that it won't be by Dooley. I think he agreed to take this position for one reason and one reason only. To improve football facilities. I agree with what someone said that he won't interfere with the other sports, but I don't think he will really give them much attention. I believe he will be involved in fundraising but primarily in relation to football. I'm not making a judgement on that, just stating what I think will happen. Although, I do believe that the AD should be equally concerned about all programs. Even though I disagree with this move, I'll still continue to support Tech and do what I can when I can.
I have to disagree with you because of Dooley's legal background. He knows that Title IX issues are some of the toughest that athletic departments face, and he understands that entire universities can be in hot water if they don't pay attention. He is now the guy in charge of ALL programs at La. Tech and he knows the responsibility that brings with it.

If I had to guess, I would say that Dooley's legal background is one of the biggest things that attracted Reneau to him for the job. Reneau understands the headaches of Title IX, and he needed someone else who has not only an athletic understanding of it, but also a legal understanding.

I have been gone or paying attention to basball so I am totally surprised. Dooley does have a law degree and by being coach he is used to delegating resposibility. I did mark that I am excited but still mostly surprised at the move.

I'm holding off on any judgment. We know Dooley likes to plan, and he seems good at it.

I want results. They don't have to be immediate, but I want to see some of this stuff ACTUALLY DONE.

On a side note, sorry for not being around as much lately, but I'm about a week away from getting my research published and this is all really exciting, albeit time consuming.

    Re: Freak-out-o-meter

    I'll post this one again.

Read the list of DD's dad, HC/AD Vince Dooley's, accomplishments as the AD/HC performed at the same time for 9 years. You know DD got to watch this growing up and learned a thing or two. I say HC Dooley can pull this off guys! It wasn't that long ago it happened in the SEC.

"In many circles Vince Dooley is better known for his accomplishments off the field than his won-loss record. In his 25 years as athletic director (Dooley served as both coach and athletic director from 1979 until 1988), Georgia has become, for better or worse, one of the nation's high-profile programs, due in no small part to Dooley's vision, work ethic and loyalty from his staff."

From the files of the Athens Banner-Herald
    New direction for the coach
    The AD years

That is a whole 'nother UNIVERSE in terms of the state of college athletics as big business, though.

I bet 1979 until 1988 at Georgia and in the SEC would compare to our situation in 2007. What DD observed and learned growing up with Vince Dooley as AD/HC I'm sure will effect him in the positive way to make it a similar universe. If not, then DD will try his best and make it be so.

Ha. Ha. Ha. Another desperate move by a desperate administration. First you hire a guy who was a perennial decade plus TEs coach to be your head football coach and a year later you make him your AD. Tick-tock ... it's just a matter of time before Tech's athletic program completely falls a part.

You don't want the truth because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties you want me on that wall, you need me on that wall. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom I provide and then questions the manner in which I provide it.

Well, for all the naysayers, this should convince you that we DEFINITELY made the right decision. When a nlulmer starts saying negative things, it is a true sign that we did the right thing.

Obviously an astute member of that fine collection of people currently holding or presently pursuing a degree from that revered institution.

I think we will know whether that is the case or not within a year. I am skeptical of this move but at the same time Dooley is a very smart guy and I don't see him taking this job unless he believes he is going to succeed - if he keeps getting stonewalled at every turn I think this will be over pretty quickly.
