I agree with Juice about having loading/unloading zones for UP and dorms.
Yeah, it doesn't really even say you can't "park" there, just that you will be removed. So maybe the rule (at Tech) is that you can't even have a car inside that space for any reason for any amount of time (although, I still wonder about driving through vs. driving through slowly vs. stopping and letting a healthy 18 year old out of the car vs. stopping and letting your 98 year old grandmother out of the car, etc.).

Loading zones would help - but you know what would happen - people would park there and take their chances (then we'd be back to a definition of "loading" instead of a definition of "parking" - although the crime of illegally using a loading spot is less devious than illegally using a handicapped spot).

I think the removal is an additional penalty to the fine for parking there. Again, since this is a criminal statute (a local regulation like this is a criminal statute), then any ambiguity will be interpreted in favor of the accused.

Again, I would contest that ticket.

The reason for lower (or low) prices is so that people will actually park there and get a ticket, which they will eventually pay. Therefore, this brings MONEY into the Police Department or whatever organization on Tech gets the money for parking fees. If you made the parking ticket $500 instead of $15 you'd definitely have fewer people illegally parking but you'd also generate less revenue.

I also think they knock off $5 if you pay it within a few days...

Plus the less expensive the less chance that the offender will "waste" his time fighting it and just pay.

I'm obviously sensitive when it comes to this subject and I agree that the officer should just have gotten you to move, considering the situation as described. Do keep in mind, in the future, that I have had to circle the block too many times waiting for the handicapped spot (I often need two as the full-sized van has a chair lift) and that there truly are people who need the kind gesture of handicapped spots offered by society. Good luck with your ticket (I hate to see college kids get hit with an extra unexpected expense) and you could always do what I did while I was at TECH. Drive a used motorcycle that you never registered in your name. You can park wherever you want then, and I sure did (except for the handicapped spots. I preferred faculty spots as they were pretty close):icon_wink:.

If I'm not mistaken, they can't refuse legal currency. What's the law on this?

I thought that is what it said on the PDF of the traffic rules.

BTW I know of people that have been given tickets for "backing into a parking spot" and a guy at South Hall told me they do it. But I don't see anything in there either saying it is illegal.

I read it. It said you couldn' back in to a spot that abutted a sidewalk or wall if it caused the parking sticker to be obscured.

Well that isn't the case for the 2 people that have gotten tickets for that that I know about.

99% of the parking tickets written on campus are written by student ticket writers. They write invalid tickets from time time to time. If you ever don't agree with a parking ticket you receive, LEAVE YOUR VEHICLE WHERE IT IS, call Tech Police and ask for someone to come look at your vehicle because you feel you got a ticket in error. They will send someone to look and see if the ticket was justified. If it wasn't, the ticket will be voided on the spot.
