I like the police; nay I love the police. Again, I have two very close personal friends are police and several more that are good friends. I've represented numerous police officers.

I also respect what you have to do to protect us. There is no doubt that you put your life on the line every time you make a simple traffic stop. My hat is off to you and the others who do your job to make my family safe. At least from my perspective, this is not an anti-police thread.

My complaint has been for years that Tech has used parking as a fund raising device. You as a police officer have to enforce whatever laws or regulations are on the books. That I understand.

That doesn't mean that we can't disagree on individual cases. I disagree with the ticket Juice got. That doesn't mean I think the officer who gave the ticket was a bad man. I think it means that Juice shouldn't have been issued the ticket. It's not personal, at least not with me. The ticket was issued. Your department did what they thought was right. Now I think Juice should fight the ticket.

A parking ticket on the Tech campus is not a "crime". I can't arrest you for parking in a red zone. However, since it is a violation of the University Parking Regulations, I can write you a parking ticket. If I "Feel" a violation has occurred, I write a ticket. If I don't "feel' like it has I don't write it. Whether or not you care what I "feel' matters zero to me.

...and you just reinforced the belief that most TECH police officers are jerks and assholes. Like the one that directed me as I backed up at JAS and backed me into the raised runoff drain...that one I'll never forget.

Poor leadership trickles down. That jackleg joke of a leader Quinnely is an unethical piece of doo doo. Don't know if he is still there, but maybe some of the officers are that were hired under him.

I think police officers are severly underpaid considering a routine traffic stop could turn into a shoot out. Just like all professions, there are good folks and bad folks.

a fascination with spinning blue lights, the freedom to drive recklessly through traffic to issue that ticket to the car going 2 miles over the limit, and being able to say "kyut kyut kyut, cuff 'em and stuff 'em flash!"

also, i think the free donuts are underrated.

Community Service and Pride. The desire to help people and make an actual, visible difference in the world. The ability to protect fellow citizens and family from harm or bring those who cause them harm to justice. The respect for the laws of the Country/State/City and desire to enforce them. The chance to be a positive influence in someone's life.
