    Your perfect fall day?

    What will it be tomorrow?

Dove hunting? Golf? Yardwork? A mini-marathon? Football on TV? ...followed by the Tech game on FSN of course.

Have not heard any dove reports, but I expect it will be tough with all the water on the ground. Regardless, it IS the beginning of hunting season.

I love me some dove hunting but opening day hunts are few and far between since it often conflicts with a Tech game. Usually hunt in Mississippi and thought this year with opening day on Monday we would be able to do some shooting, but Gustav put an end to those plans.

Just be glad you don't live or hunt in Alabama. The Governor issued an executive order recently cancelling all hunting seasons. He did so to conserve ammunition because, according to the Gov, "Those Russians may be able to invade Georgia, but if they try to make a move on Alabama, by gawd, they will have a fight on their hands!"

I will be dove hunting tomorrow in a goatweed field. I planted millet back in June and I cut and burned the majority of it last week. 3 days later, Gustav hit and all my seeds washed away. At first, i was pretty ticked that all my hard work and $ had literally washed away, but I dont feel so bad b/c for the $500 and time that I lost, many others lost ALOT more. Anyways, the weather is perfect and Im going to enjoy the afternoon trying to kill a few birds.

Any clear and cool October or November Saturday starting about 9 at Petunia's before sliding over to the Quarter to roam the book stacks and Square Hawks. An easy muff lunch at Central Grocery with at a bottle of chianti before reexploring the Market and everything around before walking home for a catnap. Then, its either dinner at home of in one of the many close and local spots before walking over to Bourbon Street and making a music and drink decision -- blues, fusion, classical, funk, country, or a little bit of it all!

I've done it a hundred times and it never gets old.

    Re: Your perfect fall day?

to answer the original question, i had my perfect fall day last year, im sure they only get better. Had my 4 year old in the deer stand with me when a 6 point came into the openning. I got my sons attention and made sure he could see the deer over the side of the stand. I told him to cover his ears it was fix'n to get loud :icon_wink:. Shot the deer and he dropped right there in his tracks (thank goodness). I have never seen the boy so pumped. I had him describe what had happened to the camera but the best was unrecorded. After i turned it off, he held up his hand and said, "daddy, give me five!" I asked him what for. He said, "that was a great shot!!!" absolutely my most favorite moment on my most favorite fall day . ..

Skipping work on a friday and heading to the golf course -

Highs in the mid 60's with a slight breeze -

Finishing up 27 holes with the guys -

And then heading to get a big thick juicy bacon cheese burger with a plate piled high with onion rings and a Coca Cola that burns on the way down....

The picking the boy up from school and heading home to get ready for a fullday of tailgating and TECH football the following Saturday -

That's about as good as it gets -
    ''Don't be a bad dagh..."

That all sounds good, except I've got a sprained ankle and a probably-broken toe, so golf doesn't work for me right now; and the new dental braces and accompanying BITE TURBO, make eating anything more chewy than mashed potatoes and applesause a whole lot of work......

    So I'll vote for:

a cool, crisp morning in the duck blind (having taken a nice smooth boat ride all the way into the blind), with good buddies talking a lot of BS, a beautiful sunrise painting the sky and reflecting on the water, followed immediately by droves of teal bombarding the decoys with hardly time to reload between groups. Home with a limit by 8:00, and get ready to go tailgate with good Tech supporters, and watch Tech win on the football field.

I have actually experienced days with all those wonderful things included, and counted myself quite blessed.
