Not really. Drafting patents and arguing with patent examiners about the motivations of hypothetical "skilled artisans" is exhausting. Music is a creative outlet.

Creed sucks. It is an objective fact. Good music doesn't require that much complexity, but Creed does nothing more than rip off the generic, most-digestable sounds of contemporary artists. It is not just about being unique. Everyone borrows, but in the end, the artist needs to put something into it - some of their own seasoning. They took other bands sounds and made it less edgy. That is not good.

The only good reason to listen to Creed is to make fun of how bad they were. Otherwise you could actually listen to something that is good.

I'm having trouble seeing how that was particularly different from what the Beatles did.

The only objective fact is that YOU feel that Creed sucks. Many people like them.

Creed is a lot like Apple computers. They took existing ideas and repackaged them behind a very effective marketing machine. I, personally, dislike Apple computers and don't seem them as particularly innovative. But I can certainly appreciate the fact that they had done what they do with great success.

Oh, and back to an earlier point you made about Stapp's vocals: I'd have to agree. Creed was definitely much better in their AlterBridge incarnation.

Now I'm curious about your opinion regarding the Dave Matthews Band.

Not really a big fan of the early Beatles work. Once they started experimenting with psychadelics, they started to improve.

Not surprised. I thought it was really clever of Dave to surround himself with those musicians to make his foray into pop music.

Yeah, but one could argue that all they did was expand their ripping off to include not only Western music but then Eastern music as well.

I just think it's cute how you continue to pretend that there is something objective to your musical tastes. You are reminding me of Rob Reiner's character in "Bullets Over Broadway." :icon_wink:

Creed started off as a Pearl Jam cover band in Tallahassee. Apparantly, Scott never learned how to do anything different. A couple of the real highlights off of Creed's first album:

the Bridge/outtro to "What's this Life for"
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HUzNY...eature=related

Start at 2:10....Wow. Bad. It is like they were experimenting with a bridge and then Scott's ego steps in and says..."wouldn't it be great if just make several refrains out of this..." Just when you think it can't get worse, you get the weak ass snare drum triplets at 3:00.

    Chorus to "One"

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hRa_8...eature=related

Choruses are supposed to be the good part. Who likes this one? You actually look forward to the verse, because the chorus is so terrible.

"My Own Prison" - best example of the crappy formula
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ydCdqcBafNk

Scott doing his best Eddie Vedder impersonation. Verse played with clean reverb, chorus is distortion and compression, and solo is flange. Somehow though the distortion and flange effects comeout as being completely sterile. Listen to any song on Tool's Aenema album to see out to really juice those effects to create mood.

    For example:

You set an impossible bar for originality. Creed took the easy road and made a crap product. They copied their contemporaries and did a poor job at it. Other bands pioneered, they just followed.

Guiss, if that is how you feel about music, then you shouldn't like any music that's came out in the last 75 years.

Not every piece of music, but the vast majority of what is played on the radio.

cruel and unusual punishment for poor molly.

slightly less severe torture for the ears. just based on the song you linked, they sound like the bosstones with fiddle and accordion instead of horns.
