Until Lake Reneau is full there are concerns about the Sparta aquifer and the water supply.
Lake R will hold water that will be available for irrigation purposes.

There ARE sprinkler systems installed I think last year all around the stadium's (real) grass.

yes, there are sprinklers for the grass on the hill. the grounds crew have to actually place the heads on the spouts. with the construction going on, they can't have the system only spray the hill and not the north endzone, so untill the GATAVision is complete, no watering the grass...unless they make a manager do it.

The atheletic dept may have their hands tied if it hasn't rained there in a while. Could be "conserve water" type thing going on right now. At least, that's what my dad says is "somewhat happening", whatever that implies... (he's known to be a little loose withthe facts)
No, replays WON'T draw a larger crowd. HOWEVER, having a big time college football atmosphere WILL draw a crowd. The video board just helps complete that experience. There are still other things to do, but you could argue that the video board was the largest piece of the puzzle that was missing as far as atmosphere.

Not to mention, doesnt the video board basically pay for itself fairly quickly. I cant remember the numbers, but I thought this thing paid itself off in 2 years or something like that, and there is a pretty consistent track record to prove it. So, this is not just some wasteful spending on some useless luxury good.

I agree, except I don't think replays is any reason, or that people would come just because of the board. Granted, it's something new, so they will at first. After the "newness" rares off, there has to be something in place for those people to keep coming, and the videoboard goes a long way in doing that.

Where will the water in Lake Reneau come from?

That area already collects a LOT of runoff. If you ever went to that park after a rain...that water is just flying out of the culvert.

i'll second that! there were areas that were basically a marsh after the big storms went through. it will be interesting to see what it looks like when they finish the project...and I would hope that Tech would capitalize on the fact that there will now be a lake/large pond close to the stadiums. to those that know things, has anything been said about this?

I hope they are really going to make that area accessible and nice looking for tailgating - plus just a nice place to go to relax (a park like area). I have seen nothing official on that, though.

As for the grass. It will be green by the time football season starts. Let's call it dormant and not "dead". Grass has the remarkable ability to green up quickly.

So in the summer, it's going to drop really low due to lack of rain, irrigation demand and evapotranspiration losses? Or does this Pugh's Creek flow year round and the lake straddles it? Or will they have means of providing makeup water by pumping the aquifer? I'm not trying to be obtuse, I'm really curious.

Agreed, but I stated that the videoboard is not about replays, but rather atmosphere. It is the lynchpin in creating a "big time" atmosphere, which WILL attract folks. If the excitement is up and the atmosphere is much better, more people are likely to be return guests at The Joe. Now, there need to be many things that happen along with the video board. Promotions, get rid of "cheesy" stuff and just the overall "we're a small school in a small town" attitude that has seemed to be part of Tech football in the past. Dooley is doing this and I truly believe that this board will be a game changer, not because of replays, but again, the overall experience.

The ability to keep a reasonable water level really depends on how deep they built the pond.
