And I concur on Hootie as an overgrown bar/frat house band that managed to get themselves overplayed on the radio. But I also agree that they know their place in the world. I've seen them twice and both times you could really tell that they are just some dudes that like playing music to sing along to. Great covers, great audience interaction, just fun times all around.

The last time I saw them it was at Billy Bob's. You Never Even Call Me by My Name brought the house down.

Obviously no danger of them being overrated here. I'll side with Lum on this one and say that hating on Coldplay is overrated. And I think it started being cliche even before 40YOV, back when Klosterman started it.
