This doesn't make much sense to me, unless Sonny is going to relinquish play-calling duties. But it would be a good hire:

LA Tech: There is a report that MTSU offensive coordinator Tony Franklin has been offered the OC job under Sonny Dykes. Franklin has not accepted the position at this point, according to our sources.

i don't understand why everyone assumes that dykes will be calling all the plays. there seem to be very few head coaches who do, even among the offensive gurus.

it also doesn't seem likely that he would accept unless we plan to pay him quite a bit more than we were paying scelfo. any idea what he makes at middle?

We hired Scelfo away from Ulala. If MTSU pays what ULL pays it wouldn't be far fetched.

"LA Tech: Offensive line coach Pete Perot, linebackers coach Stan Eggan, and special teams coordinator Mark Tommerdahl will be retained. Rob Likens will coach the wide receivers".

So what's the deal with Spangler - is the new guy keeping him or not?

Please tell me this is NOT the guy responsible for calling all the "pooch kicks" in 2009 because we apparently had NO confidence in our kick coverage....

And please tell me this is NOT the guy who failed to find a punter who can punt the ball more than 25 yards consisently.....

We had the worst punting and kickoff special teams (not FG's) in America in 2009. Why would we keep this cat?

Wasn't he new this year? You can't blame a recruiting misfire on a guy who wasn't here. Heck, he had a wr punting fairly well at one point.

I am not to sure about that.... Several MTSU fans on their board have said that they would not be surprised at all to see Tech offer Franklin up to $50,000 more than what he is currently making.

I guess that doesnt mean anything in terms of what he is currently making and what ULL pays assistants, I just thought that was an interesting statement.

    Rest in peace, Dale Hawkins.

And, seriously, y'all should check out Aswell's book.

Eric Russell was ST coach two years ago when special teams were so good. Last year, under Tommerdahl, is when things went south. DD was here with both so you can't lay it all on him.
