    People that talk shit about Nascar because they aren't intelligent enough to understand that it is a sport and not just rednecks riding around in their mom's Taurus. When you and your friends can change 4 tires and fill up your fuel tank in 14 seconds then let the smack talk begin.

    I'm not sure difficulty makes something inherently a sport. This is always the golf as sport argument - "it's sooooooo hard to do, you couldn't do it."

    I also can't juggle 6 hedgehogs while riding a unicycle or perform brain surgery (sucessfully). I can't draw a convincing alligator or burp the cyrillic alphabet backwards.

    But that doesn't make those events "sports" or (necessarily) something I'd want to watch people compete in (admittedly, hedgehog juggling on a unicycle might be good).

    "Sport" isnt' defined by folks wanting to watch it. If so WBB would not be included in the category.

    IMO, anything requiring hand-eye coordination while using or use of any of the big muscles is a sport.

    There is a difference between being an athlete and a "sportsman".

    Good point, but most great athletes I've known have been able to adapt to things requiring less use of the big muscles like golf, shooting weapons, even casting a rod and reel.

    I think you may be speaking more about pure athleticism though or being good at anything they try (folks like Champ967). I agree on that too.

    Champ967 is probably just trying to compensate for his lack of a "big muscle".

    So I surmise from your statement that you believe
    that anyone can be a pro golfer or pro bowler etc. because it doesn't take someone being able to run fast. HMMMM I guess that's why Jordon didn't become a pro golfer, because he was too athletic for golf. Or is it that if you don't find it entertaining you don't think it's a sport. I still think that it is the fact that the ins and outs of racing are over many people's heads, and they just think aww it's a bunch of rednecks with big motors and loud cars. I could just imagine how upset everyone on here would be if someone got on this board and started trashing basketball. All sports aren't for all people so just enjoy life, be happy.

    Why would you surmise that? I don't think everyone can juggle hedgehogs on a professional level. I imagine it's quite difficult. You're right that different people enjoy different entertainments. But just because I find something unenjoyable to watch doesn't mean I think it is easy or that I could do it better. It just means I find it boring.

    Athlete(s) :
    • Sportsperson, a person who participates regularly in a sport

    Athletic :
    • An athlete, or sportsperson
    • a subject like math
    • Athletic type, a physical/psychological type

    So I guess from these two definitions an athlete is someone who uses their body or mind. So, I guess a sport would be something a sportsperson does using their body or mind.
