Big difference between a pyramid scheme and social security. A pyramid scheme is a scam whereas social security is an insurance program.
The days of 16:1, even 4:1, contributors:beneficiaries are long gone. People are living longer, the gap between generations is growing, successful people (people who put the most into the system per capita) are waiting longer to have kids and having fewer of them and the opposite is true on the other side of the spectrum.

So what is your point? That the social security system has to change to survive? That it is unfair to the most successful in our society?

Big difference between SS and insurance is that insurance takes into account risk metrics and makes people pay their part of the risk, in order to stay viable. SS, like most government programs, ignores risk (they try, but the risk changes too quickly for them). Not to mention, you have no choice in the matter, which is completely unAmerican. If you are bad with your money (eg Salty), you can join SS. I would pass if I had the choice because I know how markets work and what to expect.

Reminds me of something else Obama is trying to do, oh yeh, Health/Medical insurance. Just ignore the risk, dont make unhealthy people pay more. Make those that pose least risk to the system pay more. That is a great idea!!!

You guys live too much in a pigeon-hole.

It's not my fault that you all can't think outside the box.

Methinks the key word is frugal. After all, I am a fiscal conservative.

Private insurance companies try to make a profit. A social insurance program like social security does NOT have to make a profit. The government self-insures itself. I don't know what risk you are talking about with regards to Social Security since actuaries constantly evaluate the system.

As for your statement that it is unamerican to force people to participate in Social Security, that is just a load of BS. Americans are force to do things everyday by their government. What you are saying is that Government is unamerican.

What in the world gave you the idea that I'm "bad" with my money. Glad to hear that you know how markets work.
