Ask for documentation of this rule. If they are using LOCAL rules, then they should have something written on it. If there is no LOCAL rule and they're going by the Dixie baseball rules, then there is not a "slide" rule. The rule is actually that the runner must "avoid contact". Ask for clarification IN WRITING. Bring Rule 7.08 (m) with you. It says that you may slide OR avoid contact with the fielder.
There is. It's called obstruction. Unfortunantly, for it to be called, there has to be contact. If the catcher is in the act of fielding the ball, then there is no call. If it's still on the way, then the runner is safe.
