Re: Tech Administration decides to send only 1/3 of the BOP to the Poinsettia Bowl

Robken has been in meetings all morning trying to get an exact number of members we can take. Actual facts from this meeting:
The bowl gives $750,000 to the WAC and the WAC gives Tech $375,000 for bowl expenses. From that the athletic department is trying to secure two charter flights at the cost of $110,000 each - so that's 220,000 of the budget. If things workout for chartering two planes: each flight has 175 seats - 210 are for the football team, 10 for Dr. Reneau and company, 15 for cheer - leaving 115 for band. Out of that 115, eight are directors, staff, and admin, leaving 107 playing members - a lot better than the initial projection of 50 playing members and half staff, however, we still need help to try to raise funds for an additional 25 members that are able and willing to participate. We would need to raise about 20-25,000 to take the whole band.
The alumni association has set up a Band Travel Account. The goal is to have this account and fundraise for it, so Tech is never in this situation again. (football and basketball postseason)
If you would like to make a donation you can contact Lisa Smith at the Alumni Center at 318-255-7950.
Thank you all who have expressed support for the Band of Pride, thank you for any and all donations. It would be greatly appreciated.

See the post right above yours. It's not dead on, but it's probably a very close estimate.

The numbers I mentioned came straight from the athletic department's bowl meeting this morning.

Estimated need of $20-25,000 to send the rest commercially.

My point was that IF the entire band doesn't go to SD, will there still be a Hoop Troop at the basketball games. After all, there would be 2/3 of the band available.

Since they work so hard throughout the school year and are the most spirited organization on campus, then yes, they should be there. I mean, that's how they described themselves. So my thoughts are, after all of this noise being made, if they don't go in the end, they better be at basketball.

My nephew was in the Baylor band several years ago and was here at his grandmother's for Thanksgiving. Then Baylor paid for him to fly out of Shreveport to wherever their bowl game was that year. From what I remember from someone else in the LSU band, they paid mileage for the members in state to get back to BR in time for a bowl game or whatever game they had during the holidays. So, yeah, big budgets really help to make sure the members are all back for these kinds of games.

I would love to see the cheerleaders and RBs be included in this. Also, it would be wonderful there would be someone with some experience in raising money head this up.

Re: Tech Administration decides to send only 1/3 of the BOP to the Poinsettia Bowl

I have a question, some of you stated that there were a number of BoP members missing due to the Thanksgiving break. Why? Isn't the football game a performance? Would you miss a concert? Or maybe a better question would be, would it be ok for a football player to miss a football game because it was quarter break? As a member of the band you are part of a team, no you don't look at the score board to see if you won or lost but you are part of a team and other members count on you to do your part. Yes I think the entire band should go to SD also, but to think that you can pick and choose which performances you participate in is beyond me. I was a member of the bands while at Tech (all of them at some point in time) I know the commitiment it takes.

Please remember the Facebook post is NOT a petition!! It was started to get a few band members together to write a real petition because facebook petitions are a joke.
We have gathered some real information since the incident and have been posting it everywhere.

Then you must've come with TCU to Shreveport in 1994, right?
